016df4626c Merge FEC: own the GF(2^8) Reed-Solomon math; drop reed-solomon-erasure
Operator: "FEC: Please own the math." rs-gf256-v1 implemented in
media_fec.rs, wire-identical to the crate (1,795 geometries, independent
derivation, 6,520 cross-version recoveries, 60k hostile blocks identical).
lru and instant advisories gone; 13 fewer dependencies. combine uses one
product row per coefficient: encode ~1.0-1.4x, decode ~1.2-1.4x the crate.
Follow-up: k^3 inversion makes 255+1 recovery ~124 ms.

82f976b933 Merge portability onboarding fix: pack the whole public closure; time the headless run from its command
NU1101 since 69bd45ff: pack-nuget.ps1 packed a hand list that missed
GameCult.Math; it now follows ProjectReferences from the public roots.
ubuntu timeout since 2dc7c122: the headless deadline started at connect.
Green on both OSes: run 36727267703 (ubuntu passed twice).
Follow-up (Eve): pack-dotnet-surface.ps1 ignores the version parameters
the verify script passes, so the local feed reuses published versions.

04c0171bcc eve-browser-network: the headless deadline starts at its command
The headless C# client armed a 45 s deadline as soon as its lease was up,
but the orchestrator then runs the whole browser scenario (Chromium launch,
two clicks, provider and Odin replacement, page reconnect) before it sends
INVOKE. On ubuntu runners that scenario alone takes most of the budget: the
last green run finished with little to spare, and since 2dc7c122 the ubuntu
onboarding job has timed out in the headless process either before the
receipt or during the post-receipt benchmark.

The orchestrator already bounds each step it waits on, and closing stdin
ends the headless wait for its command. The headless process now bounds only
its own work: the 45 s deadline covers the invoke, convergence and benchmark
after INVOKE arrives.

9b4167d9ab pack-nuget: pack the ProjectReference closure, not a hand list
Merge 69bd45ff made GameCult.Caching.MessagePack reference CultMath
(PackageId GameCult.Math), so its nuspec depends on GameCult.Math 0.2.4.
The packer's hand-written project list never packed it, and GameCult.Math
is not on nuget.org, so every clean consumer of the local feed failed
restore with NU1101. That is the Eve surface consumer smoke in the
"one-command multiplayer onboarding" jobs, red on both OSes since then.

The packer now walks ProjectReference from the public roots (GameCult.Mesh,
GameCult.Networking.WebSockets) and packs the whole closure. The expected
package names come from MSBuild's PackageId and Version for each project,
since GameCult.Math carries its own identity.

36ea08d38d Merge interop Cut 0: the interop lane runs, and fails honestly
The consolidation guard accepts cultnet-rs vendored schema copies (the lane
was red for 40 main runs). Every CI step now fails on any failed command
(job default shell bash -eo pipefail); proven red on a throwaway branch.
The cultnet-py explicit-bind test stays on loopback; the Rust drift guard
lists the vendored directory. CI run 36723314611 green at 59d85557.
Follow-up: CI never runs schema_discovery_contracts.

59d8555719 cultnet-rs: the vendored-schema guard lists the directory
The equality test compared only the 22 names in a hand-kept list, so a schema
copied into packages/cultnet-rs/contracts/cultnet/ without joining the list
escaped it. Every *.schema.json under the vendored tree is now found by listing
it and compared against its canonical copy. The presence test is gone: include_str!
already fails the build for an embedded schema that is not vendored.

b62bfc7c8c cultnet-py: the explicit-bind test stays on loopback
The test sent from an explicit 127.0.0.1 bind to a non-loopback address, which
Windows refuses outright (WinError 10051), so it only held on Linux. It now
binds 127.0.0.2 for a 127.0.0.1 endpoint, whose derived bind is 127.0.0.1, and
checks the source address the listener sees. That still fails if the explicit
host is ignored, on every platform, with no dependence on a non-loopback route.

52abce9191 Interop workflow: every command in a step counts
The Windows runner's default pwsh does not stop when a native command fails, so
a multi-command step reported only its last command: a failing cultnet-py suite
went green inside "Verify Python RUDP reliability". The job now defaults to Git
Bash, which the runner starts with -e -o pipefail. The pwsh consolidation guard
checks git ls-files' exit code instead of treating a failed listing as clean.

beb7c46162 Interop guard: accept cultnet-rs's vendored schema copies
The consolidation guard rejected every *.schema.json outside contracts/cultnet/,
including the R-AB byte copies vendored into packages/cultnet-rs/contracts/cultnet/.
The interop workflow has been red at that step on main ever since, so no later
cross-runtime step ran. The guard now accepts that one path; drift of those copies
is judged by the Rust equality test in tests/schema_discovery_contracts.rs.
The retired-namespace check is unchanged.

7c1a792a28 Media FEC: one table lookup per shard byte in combine
Soul measured the owned math at 1.7-2.6x the crate's time at realistic sizes
(16+4 x 1200 B encode 64k -> 122k ns), because combine called gf_mul per byte:
two zero checks and three lookups. combine now tabulates each coefficient's
256 products once and spends one lookup and one XOR per byte; coefficient 0
is skipped and 1 is a plain XOR. The construction and every wire byte are
unchanged: the known-answer fixture passes untouched.

tests/media_fec_bench.rs is an ignored, dependency-free timing test over the
public surface (4+2 at 160 and 1300 B, 16+4 at 1200 B, 255+1 at 1300 B):

b4cee00af2 Ack Cut 3: a server's new generation does not inherit acknowledged bytes
A server accepting a fresh Connect can send before its Accept is
acknowledged, so no ack of the new generation prunes the acknowledged
sizes; only `end_session` clearing them keeps the ended generation's bytes
from counting against the new window. Rust, TypeScript, Python and C# each
pin it: 4 MiB acknowledged above a lost packet, a fresh Connect, and the
server's first 1 MiB send of the new generation goes out.

1833df58d4 cultnet-rs: a direct send measures the window after reclaiming expired sends
`send` checked `window_admits` before `send_many` purged deadline-passed
packets, so the first direct send after the lowest unacked packet expired
was refused for acknowledged bytes that `send_many` would already have
released. `send` now purges first, as `send_many` does.

8fc74c7094 Merge RUDP client bind: a client for a remote endpoint binds the unspecified address
A client with no bind host binds loopback for a loopback endpoint and the
unspecified address of the endpoint family otherwise, in Rust, TS, Python,
Kotlin and C#. On Windows a loopback-bound socket could not send to a remote
address (os error 10051), which kept eureka-state from reaching Huginn.

e079ba1ad3 cultmesh-kotlin: the bind self-test observes a wildcard, not its family
A JVM wildcard socket is dual-stack, so a client bound to 0.0.0.0 reports the
IPv6 wildcard as its local address and the self-test's first check failed on
Linux. Assert that a client for a remote endpoint binds a wildcard, and keep the
exact loopback checks.

e6ddcdd6e1 GameCult.Mesh: an RUDP client binds by its endpoint, as the other runtimes do
CultMeshRudpSocketOptions.BindHost defaulted to 0.0.0.0 for servers and
clients alike (a58daa54, so clients could reach remote routes). That bound an
IPv4 socket for every client, so a client for an IPv6 endpoint could not send,
and a client for a loopback endpoint listened on every interface.

BindHost is now nullable and unset by default. Unset, a client binds loopback
for a loopback endpoint and the unspecified address of the endpoint's family
(0.0.0.0 or ::) otherwise, matching cultnet-rs, cultnet-ts, cultnet-py and
cultmesh-kotlin. A server keeps binding 0.0.0.0. An explicit BindHost wins for
both. The test that pinned the old default's value is replaced by tests of
what each endpoint binds.

cf62461643 cultmesh-kotlin: an RUDP client for a remote endpoint binds the unspecified address
The CultMesh RUDP client entry points defaulted bindHost to 127.0.0.1. On
Windows a socket bound to loopback cannot send off the host (os error 10051),
so a default client could not reach a remote endpoint.

cultNetRudpClientBindAddress owns the rule: loopback for a loopback endpoint,
otherwise the unspecified address of the endpoint's family (0.0.0.0 or ::).
bindHost defaults to null on every client entry point, which uses the rule. An
explicit bindHost still wins; a CultMesh server still binds 127.0.0.1 unless
told otherwise. The self-test pins all three.

9954652266 cultnet-py, cultmesh-py: an RUDP client for a remote endpoint binds the unspecified address
create_rudp_schema_transport and CultMesh.create_rudp_client (and create_client
and connect_client above them) defaulted bind_host to 127.0.0.1 on an AF_INET
socket. On Windows a socket bound to loopback cannot send off the host (os
error 10051), so a default client could not reach a remote endpoint.

cultnet-py now owns the rule in rudp_client_bind_host: loopback for a loopback
endpoint, otherwise the unspecified address of the endpoint's family (0.0.0.0
or ::). bind_host defaults to None on the client paths, which use the rule; the
socket family follows the bind host. An explicit bind_host still wins; a
CultMesh server still binds 127.0.0.1 unless told otherwise.

b68ddfe357 cultnet-ts, cultmesh-ts: an RUDP client for a remote endpoint binds the unspecified address
CultMesh.createRudpClient defaulted bindHost to 127.0.0.1 on a udp4 socket, and
invokeCultNetOperation bound 127.0.0.1 unconditionally. On Windows a socket
bound to loopback cannot send off the host (os error 10051), so neither could
reach a remote endpoint.

cultnet-ts now owns the rule in rudpClientBindHost: loopback for a loopback
endpoint, otherwise the unspecified address of the endpoint's family (0.0.0.0
or ::). The operation client and the CultMesh client both use it, and the
CultMesh socket family follows the bind host. An explicit bindHost still wins;
a CultMesh server still binds 127.0.0.1 unless told otherwise.

88d2d72405 cultnet-rs: an RUDP client for a remote endpoint binds the unspecified address
CultMeshRudpSocketOptions defaulted bind_host to 127.0.0.1 for servers and

binds loopback for a loopback endpoint and the unspecified address of the

d391770abb Media FEC: own the rs-gf256-v1 math, drop reed-solomon-erasure
Operator ruling, 2026-09-30: "FEC: Please own the math."

reed-solomon-erasure 6.0.0 pulled lru 0.7.8 (RUSTSEC-2026-0253, unsound) and
instant (RUSTSEC-2024-0384, unmaintained) into every cultnet-rs consumer.
media_fec.rs now implements the construction its docs already state, read
against the crate's source rather than its names: GF(2^8) reduced by 0x11D
with 2 as generator, the n x k Vandermonde matrix over the evaluation points
0..n-1 with 0^0 = 1, E = V * inverse(top k rows), parity = rows k..k+m of E,
and recovery through the inverse of E's rows for the first k present shards,
which is the row choice the crate made.

About 130 lines: const log/exp tables, a Gauss-Jordan inverse, the encoding
rows, and one combine loop. It allocates only the block's shards and three
k x k matrices, so the decoder's bound is still set by the wire validators
(<= 256 shards of <= 64 KiB). The shard functions no longer return errors
that only the crate's own checks could raise; every caller already bounds k,
m and the shard length.

The generator test is deleted with the crate; the fixture keeps its output and
names the commit that ran it. New: a seeded property test over 300 random
(k <= 48, m <= 24) geometries, any e <= m erasures recover exactly and m + 1
are refused.

d866cd5916 Media FEC: pin rs-gf256-v1 to 35 known-answer cases from the reference crate
tests/fixtures/media_fec_rs_gf256_v1.kat holds what reed-solomon-erasure 6.0.0
produced at 73bf4421: the parity bytes of every standard video geometry
(k = 1..=16), standard audio 4+2 at 1, 37 and 1300 bytes, a 4000-byte shard,
all-zero and all-0xff data, and the policy's edges (1+1, 2+1, 255+1, 1+255,
2+254, 128+128, 200+56, 250+6), plus 120 erasure patterns mixing data and
parity. Its header defines the data, so another runtime can meet it.

Two tests drive the codec's public audio path, which takes any (k, m): every
case's parity matches byte for byte, and every pattern recovers the erased data
from the fixture's own parity bytes. Both pass against the crate here, before
it is replaced.

73bf44212e Media FEC: a generator for rs-gf256-v1 known answers from the reference crate
Before reed-solomon-erasure is replaced by an owned GF(2^8) construction, it
produces the vectors the owned code must meet. The ignored test encodes every
standard video geometry (k = 1..=16), standard audio 4+2 at 1, 37 and 1300
bytes, a 4000-byte shard, zero and 0xff data, and the policy's edges (1+1,
255+1, 1+255, 2+254, 128+128, 200+56, 250+6), and reconstructs four erasure
patterns per case, asserting the crate returns the original data.

It is run once and deleted with the crate; git keeps its provenance.

d7eacd1011 Ack Cut 3 F1: the 4 MiB flow bound counts acknowledged bytes above the lowest unacknowledged sequence
The bound summed only packets still awaiting an ack. Once frames above a lost
packet were acknowledged they stopped counting, so a receiver could be made to
hold more than 4 MiB behind one loss, and its hold buffer ended the session.
The sender now keeps the payload size of each acknowledged sequence above the
lowest pending one until the lowest advances past it, in Rust, TypeScript,

frames, the fifth refused until the gap closes; and the floor moving to a new

Cut 1's the_hold_buffer_takes_exactly_1024_frames test held 1,024 frames behind a

Cut 3's flow window stops a sender 1,023 sequences above its lowest unacked packet,
so the test's sender was refused at frame 1,023. The missing packet is now
acknowledged by hand (the receiver never saw it), so the window slides and what
the test probes is the receiver's hold buffer, not the sender.

ede87f7423 Ack Cut 3: the flow-window tests shake hands the way Cut 1 requires

is acknowledged, so nothing is pending on it when the tests begin. Rust also
takes initial_sequence as an Option.

An Ack that names the Connect (a server's reply to a repeat or a stale copy) no longer wedges the client with nothing to resend. The Connect payload lives on the session, so a fresh attempt can always be built. The fresh attempt uses the abandoned sequence plus the receive window less one (serial), so a late copy of the abandoned Connect stays inside the new one's stale window; only a session's first Connect draws at random.

The cultmesh-ts document server has a test that it does not acknowledge by name a reliable packet its session did not receive.

1569f013c6 Ack Cut 1d (C#): stale generations are duplicates, a stale Connect is answered not obeyed, sessions draw their own sequence
A frame at or before the seeded watermark is a duplicate of an earlier generation and is acknowledged, never delivered again (serial compare within the receive window). A Connect that precedes the current generation's within the window is a stale copy of an earlier attempt: it is answered like a repeat (Accept owed or Ack), changes no state and does not refresh liveness. A Connect unanswered for 3 s is replaced by a fresh Connect with a newly drawn sequence and the same payload. In server mode a Connect from another endpoint is always a new generation. The initial sequence is unset by default and each session draws its own; the public random helper is removed.

An accepted peer now stamps its liveness on accept, so one that goes silent times out.
