# Pass 5 Report - Strategy Auditions
## Artifacts Produced
- [[Strategy Dossiers]]
- [[Specialist Synthesis]]
- [[Skeptical Review Report]]
- [[../Tactical Traces]]
- [[../Simulation Seam Log]]
## Decisions Locked
- Seven doctrines are narratively viable: Reversible Superiority, Deep Quiet, shaped heat ferries, Patient Hand Remorae, premium cognition with precision energy, Hot ballistics, and mixed drone clouds.
- Audition does not guarantee a complete campaign. Pass 6 may combine, abbreviate, or retain a doctrine as a capability inside another campaign.
- Established, Provisional, and Contested tactical statuses govern narrative use.
- Provisional maneuvers may decide robust coarse outcomes; contested numerical or behavioral edges may not.
- Hull One's destruction is not established by the recovery ambush.
- Later energy, Hot, heat-ferry, and mixed-cloud doctrines require declared refits or replacement hulls.
- Dena Vey, Rin Adao, and Soren Ilyev become recurring support characters before the first selected hull loss.
- Target and external actors must make decisions that constrain later doctrine.
## Contradictions Resolved
- Recovery topology now has consistent capture, parking, and service arithmetic.
- The twelve-percent Courtesy reserve is a bounded council exception rather than Luce silently overriding Samira.
- Jo owns weapon and payload release across drone and Remora traces.
- Shaped-emission cognition attacks impose load but do not compel behavior.
- Database fixtures and executable traces no longer gate novella planning.
## State Delta
- The crew possesses seven attractive but bounded strategy families.
- Twelve simulation candidates meet at least two promotion conditions; none blocks Pass 6.
- Samira has two seeded costly refusals.
- Pal has one seeded embodiment refusal accepted by Luce.
- Sable has a delayed-delegation failure and later voluntary delegation.
- Mara's protection of augmented targets is conduct without absolution and without erasing target agency.
- The Twelvefold has an explicit mixed-cloud vote split and private individual positions.
- Support labor, target crews, yards, dependants, insurers, clinics, and Wake can alter subsequent campaigns.
## Review Findings
All three independent reviewers accepted progression after reconciliation. No remaining blocker prevents Failure Ladder selection. Full details are retained in [[Skeptical Review Report]].
## Review Points Before Pass 6
- Select six or seven campaigns by emotional escalation and narrative variety, not doctrine symmetry.
- Decide whether the recovery ambush damages Hull One, destroys it through a newly proven chain, or merely motivates the first major refit.
- Assign later hull and refit sequence to selected doctrines.
- Add complete counter traces, robust timing margins, named target actors, and external decisions only for selected campaigns.
- Ensure at least one audition remains a profitable success or abandoned proposal rather than another complete failure cycle.

# Skeptical Review Report
Pass 5 received independent audience, continuity/tactics, and character/social-agency reviews. Reviewers submitted findings only; the coordinator retained sole write and canon authority.
## Audience Review
### Findings
- Several doctrines shared physically similar counters and could become repetitive as full campaigns.
- Samira lacked costly refusals.
- Support labor remained anonymous.
- Deep Quiet risked reading as a list of debuffs.
- Mixed clouds carried too many simultaneous explanations.
- Pal observed Luce's pattern but did not exercise embodiment choice.
- Heat-ferry and premium-cognition failures needed emotional separation.
### Reconciliation
- Pass 6 will select six or seven campaigns without assuming every audition receives a complete cycle.
- Campaign forms are differentiated: evacuation crisis, domestic pressure cooker, confidence trick, boarding refusal, contaminated cognition, contractual defeat, and rescue disguised as tactical failure.
- Samira now aborts Deep Quiet at bodily cost and refuses Hot pursuit at reputational cost.
- Dena Vey, Rin Adao, and Soren Ilyev are recurring support workers before any selected hull loss.
- Pal refuses to sacrifice recent sensory memory; Luce accepts the refusal.
- Mixed clouds center the rescue-reserve choice; service complexity remains aftermath.
- Heat ferries concern performance and the audience's freedom not to believe. Premium cognition concerns contaminated confidence crossing system boundaries.
**Recheck verdict:** Accept for Failure Ladder selection. Selected campaigns must receive complete counter traces in Pass 6.
## Continuity And Tactics Review
### Findings
- Recovery arithmetic was inconsistent.
- A provisional recovery-lane interaction secretly destroyed Hull One.
- Later doctrines lacked hull/refit boundaries.
- The shaped-ferry success depended too strongly on a provisional cognition exploit.
- Samira's reserve authority and Jo's release authority were unclear.
- Deep Quiet lacked a conserved Remora delivery chain.
- Hot volume fire lacked bounded geometry.
- Patient Hands lacked a failed-capture packet.
- `Combat Model` still described database fixtures as a Pass 5 requirement.
### Reconciliation
- Four recovery cycles now take 4:40 from recovery start and 3:30 from first completed capture to last; twelve internal hot-parking cradles and four service positions are explicit.
- T-02 causes mission loss and recovery-plant damage only. Hull One destruction remains open for Pass 6 and requires a separate coarse chain.
- Every doctrine is assigned to Hull One, a declared refit, or a later hull. Hardware cannot appear through retasking.
- Cargo policy, ordinary geometry, and correction traffic decide the shaped-ferry success. Cognitive attraction only increases delay.
- Samira's twelve-percent reserve is a bounded council exception over formal objection. Jo owns all weapon and payload release.
- Deep Quiet prepositions one stocked sensor/antenna Remora eighteen hours before attachment geometry.
- Hot volume fire occurs inside a constrained extraction corridor with protected traffic and an objective deadline.
- T-05B records false topology, passenger coupling, local controls, hull-clearing charges, Mara's refusal, and target escape.
- Simulation database work is now a promotion requirement, not a novella prerequisite.
**Recheck verdict:** Accept after final arithmetic and authority corrections, which are incorporated.
## Character And Social Agency Review
### Findings
- Aggregate actors reacted but rarely chose.
- Support workers remained collective machinery.
- Target crews were tactical surfaces outside Patient Hands.
- Twelvefold plurality lacked an actual split.
- Pal's autonomy and Sable's delegation were conclusions rather than costly behavior.
- Mara's protected captives needed agency.
- The Courtesy reserve needed a legitimate command mechanism.
### Reconciliation
- Every doctrine now has a target-side decision and an external decision constraining later play.
- Dena can halt recovery, Rin can reject atmosphere service, and Soren can stop unsafe ammunition feed.
- Target workers cooperate, publish countermeasures, sever systems, refuse gratitude, and control testimony.
- The mixed-cloud vote splits explicitly between Chak's operational relay use and Tik-tik's protected rescue reserve; all twelve internal positions are recorded.
- Pal refuses a tactically attractive memory sacrifice. Sable first delays a Slow Vote at cost, then delegates voluntarily during partition.
- Mara protects an augmented captive before usefulness is known; the captive refuses debrief and controls publication.
- The council-authorized reserve trial preserves Samira's office and makes Luce's error an overgeneralization rather than covert mutiny.
**Recheck verdict:** Accept. The selected campaigns must continue individual Corvid, support-worker, target, and external-institution state.
## Carry-Forward Requirements
- Add full counter traces only for campaigns selected in Pass 6.
- Name and track the Patient Hand target engineer if that campaign is selected.
- Give every selected campaign a distinct narrative form and emotional injury.
- Do not select Hull One's loss until recovery attack, PDC interaction, damage path, evacuation margin, and competent mitigation form a robust causal chain.
- Preserve support-worker, dependant, target, yard, insurer, and Wake decisions as causes of the next campaign rather than receipts after the fact.

# Specialist Synthesis
Three independent doctrine specialists supplied read-only proposals before canonical adjudication.
## Adopted Contributions
- Hot doctrine can win every exchange it reaches while losing the protected objective elsewhere.
- Deep Quiet accumulates social, physiological, and information debt, not only heat.
- A bounded council trial resolves the twelve-percent Courtesy reserve without nullifying Samira's authority.
- Shaped heat ferries perform mutually plausible histories; architecture-specific attraction may add load but cannot compel behavior.
- Remorae use distributed local authority and can be countered by false maintenance topology, physical isolation, local confirmation, and passenger coupling.
- Mixed clouds retain physical capability envelopes. Consequence-volume defense attacks shared geometry rather than solving every role.
- A protected rescue reserve is useful because it remains uncommitted; spending it as a relay may win the fight and lose the rescue.
- Premium cognition requires confidence provenance between classification and firing geometry; slower independent judgment can resist shared contamination.
## Rejected Or Narrowed Contributions
- No audition received a first-hull loss without a separate robust damage chain.
- No architecture-specific emission guarantees an enemy decision.
- No drone changes into a role unsupported by installed hardware.
- No exact performance margin became canon because it appeared in a specialist proposal.
- Not all seven doctrines are promised equal-length campaign cycles.
## Coordinator Use
The proposals informed [[Strategy Dossiers]], [[../Tactical Traces]], and [[../Simulation Seam Log]]. Those canonical artifacts supersede specialist wording where they differ.

# Strategy Dossiers
Pass 5 auditions seven doctrines as narrative engines. None is selected as a complete campaign merely by appearing here. Each must seduce, work, teach the wrong lesson, and expose a different pressure on the crew.
## 1. Reversible Superiority
### Seduction
Luce's argument is unusually good. Smart weapons made hesitation survivable by allowing commitment to remain open until terminal range; recoverable PDC drones extend the same logic to the defensive response. They can fly toward unresolved traces, kill cheap eyes, force expensive reveals, and return when the contact proves harmless. A mistaken launch becomes service work instead of a corpse or a ruined premium munition.
Sable improves the task lattice, Chak designs return geometry, Samira insists on a twenty-two-percent ordinary reserve, and deck labor demonstrates excellent staggered turnaround. Luce persuades the campaign council to authorize twelve percent for one bounded eight-drone high-tempo trial with no unresolved contacts outside the screened volume; Samira records a formal objection and retains withdrawal authority. The success encourages him to seek the same exception for a full-wing sortie in a contact field that violates the trial assumptions. This is informed amateurism in its purest form: he accounts for every moving machine and forgets that all of them eventually come home to the same doors.
### Audition
Against a sparse picket screen, the doctrine is magnificent. Courtesy drones force an escort to show its hand, capture a relay, and recover with nobody dead. The deck crew services scorch marks while Luce gives an interview to nobody in particular about making violence fiscally reversible.
The validation teaches the wrong lesson. When a later opponent feeds the screen heterogeneous cheap contacts, the drones still win their local exchanges. The opponent is not trying to win those exchanges. It maps the return fan and places loiterers against recovery lanes. More cognition improves triage and makes the loss exquisitely well organized.
### Character Work
The first success makes the crew briefly enjoy his money. The failure establishes his invariant: he abandons Courtesy hulls and the capture rather than sacrifice deck crews to save the service neighborhood. Samira begins separating his bad strategic judgment from his reliable crisis ethics. Sable experiences the insult of having the correct schedule and the wrong physical plant. Pass 5 does not yet claim this engagement destroys Hull One.
### Economic Work
Recoverability changes launch behavior and produces a real favorable matchup. It also concentrates expensive labor, spares, coolant, ammunition, and maintenance. The campaign's captured value cannot cover the beautiful hole made in the drone deck.
## 2. Deep Quiet
### Seduction
After visible recovery geometry kills his first revelation, Luce decides the real error was allowing the enemy any history at all. Deep quiet makes every action an exercise in debt, discipline, and timing. A pirate who waits longer than respectable security can afford may arrive at attachment range without creating a conventional battle.
Ilya turns the slogan into operating doctrine. Samira removes corrective burns from the plan. Edda defines thermal floors below which machinery and crew become unreliable. The Twelvefold distributes passive observation across cold perches. Pal turns domestic systems into a miserly heat budget and remembers three childhood hobbies in which Luce discovered asceticism immediately after breaking something expensive.
### Audition
The favorable target is a schedule-bound escort whose legal radiator and thrust rhythm is more reliable than its sensors. A cold Remora waits where the escort must eventually put itself. The capture is quiet, profitable, and deeply unpleasant for the target.
The wrong lesson is that patience is a weapon without recoil. In truth, heat debt, stale information, crew discomfort, augmentation shutdown, deferred maintenance, and sacrificed maneuver accumulate. An opponent need not find the ship. It can vary schedules, shed cheap unclassified objects, and remain productive under uncertainty until the pirates must restore atmosphere, wake cognition, dump heat, or abandon prepositioned assets. The deep-quiet ship can remain hidden or remain capable; it cannot indefinitely do both.
### Character Work
Ilya gains authority and then has to spend it telling Luce that discomfort is not evidence of seriousness. Rin Adao's gas-analysis overlay begins translating its own oxygen debt as a safe compartment, turning a systems cost into one familiar body. Pal closes part of their hull awareness but refuses Luce's unspoken hope that they discard recent sensory memory into a detachable false continuation. Luce accepts the refusal without treating affection as permission. Edda declares the physiological limit; Samira aborts, loses the prepositioned assets, and accepts a Navigator notation that she abandoned a nearly matured capture. The Twelvefold's embodied “Cold Choir” carries observations between isolated passive stations by flight and narrow optical exchange, advancing both the mission and private cache mapping.
### Economic Work
Quiet time consumes storage media, detachable sinks, maintenance life, and opportunities. The prize looks profitable until Tess prices the discarded thermal hardware and the work lost during recovery.
## 3. Shaped Heat Ferries
### Seduction
Deep quiet loses when the enemy refuses to behave predictably. Luce's answer is to stop hiding the scene and begin authoring it. Heat ferries can spend carried thermal debt imitating plausible ships, wounded drives, legal dumps, relays, or spent sinks. The parent can perform a cousin within its own envelope. Battle becomes a kaleidoscopic hidden-object puzzle in which the pirate decides which objects deserve attention.
Ilya polices physical plausibility. Qerr composes emission history. Rruk and Sable insist on architecture isolation. The doctrine becomes less “make a fake ship” and more “present several honest-enough explanations whose resolution costs the defender time, heat, and cognition.”
### Audition
It works against an escort whose cargo-protection policy requires it to inspect apparent distress before firing through the convoy volume. Bounded false histories draw active apertures and patient weapons away from the parent's approach; ordinary correction traffic and aspect changes reveal the command relay. An architecture-tailored puzzle adds delay but does not compel the response. Luce is delighted to discover that electronic warfare can be smug.
The hard counter is an opponent that refuses the intellectual contest. Halcyon fields a deliberately coarse classifier, architecture diversity, and a human rule: protect the principal, illuminate everything, do not solve the puzzle. The ferries spend heat constructing a scene nobody agrees to read. The parent inherits the unpaid thermal debt.
### Character Work
The Twelvefold's artistry becomes operationally indispensable without becoming captain-owned equipment. Sable must accept that a less intelligent architecture can be more robust precisely because it declines the offered work. Luce confronts the difference between controlling a performance and controlling its audience.
### Economic Work
The first success creates a market for the emission family and therefore its counter. Heat ferries are cheap only if nobody counts carried heat, metamaterial wear, lost recovery, and the legal consequences of performing distress.
## 4. Patient Hand Remorae
### Seduction
After a doctrine fails because the enemy simply refuses to interpret, Luce turns from appearance to contact. Remorae promise the whole pirate economy in one chassis: reach the prize, attach, and attack exactly the subsystem that makes resistance intolerable while preserving hull, cargo, and people.
Mara specifies what surrender geometry must look like to bodies in compartments. Sable narrows autonomy. Pal draws a conduct boundary around life support. Edda builds antidote and casualty branches. The result can target sensors, safing, locks, datanets, reactor controls, thermal plant, or crew environment without pretending those effects are morally interchangeable.
### Audition
Against a ship with exposed sensor and safing dependencies, Patient Hands sever confident resistance and open surrender channels. The prize survives. Luce calls it violence with manners.
The misleading validation is property preservation. A later target has isolated networks, manual safing, sacrificial buses, hull-clearing charges, and a crew willing to damage its own ship. Several Remorae report successful control because they have entered deliberately false maintenance segments. One apparent service route shares pressure authority with a passenger refuge. Sable can reconcile the machine reports faster than Mara can physically verify them; Mara refuses entry and Luce backs the abort. Non-destructive intrusion can preserve property while terrifying, surveilling, or cognitively violating people. The hard counter is partly technical and partly a refusal to let the pirates define “harm” around resale value.
### Character Work
Mara protects an augmented captive during a boarding crisis because the person is under her authority and therefore hers to keep alive, not because her politics have improved on schedule. Sable and Mara fight over whether remote risk is mercy or class privilege. Pal refuses an efficient life-support action. Luce learns that intact is not synonymous with unharmed.
### Economic Work
Captured value is high until quarantine, evidence, specialist medicine, damaged trust, and prize decontamination are counted. Insurers learn to price subsystem topology and manual isolation.
## 5. Premium Cognition And Precision Energy
### Seduction
If subsystem capture becomes ethically and operationally messy, Luce proposes an almost Platonic answer: know more, decide faster, and place energy exactly where it ends the fight. Lasers exchange onboard reactor power and heat for pinpoint effect. Premium cognition improves sensing, classification, command, fire control, guidance, and damage control. Better decisions across the whole stack should mean fewer rounds, fewer mistakes, and fewer frightened boarders.
Jo ensures that “cycle” means cycle rounds on target, not merely make the mechanism busy. Sable allocates cognition. Ilya protects confidence labels. Edda budgets optical and reactor heat. The stack is genuinely excellent.
### Audition
Against a conventional ship with concentrated sensor and drive control, precise shots disable resistance before a ballistic exchange matures. It looks like intelligence abolishing mess.
The wrong lesson is that enough cognition turns uncertainty into a solvable queue. A countering ship generates cheap contradictory events, presents sacrificial surfaces, attacks the architecture's assumptions, and fires ballistic patterns that demand simultaneous defense. The premium system knows more than anyone has ever known about why it cannot finish every task before deadline.
### Character Work
Sable receives the victory and owns the failure. Growth does not require renouncing enhancement; it requires allowing slower judgment and distributed refusal to interrupt premium cognition. When contamination first appears, Sable delays Pal's proposed confidence fuses and Slow Vote long enough to waste one recoverable firing cycle. Pal then isolates classification from firing geometry; command takes a deliberately separated judgment from Jo, Mara, and Rruk. During the later mixed-cloud partition, Sable voluntarily delegates local coordination instead of repeating the delay. Jo discovers that a beautiful solution assigned too late is merely an accurate description of where the target used to be.
### Economic Work
Energy precision saves ammunition mass while consuming reactor, capacitor, cooling, optical maintenance, and proprietary cognition support. Tavi Ro becomes a campaign dependency. Halcyon needs only to make every decision expensive, not outthink Sable in the abstract.
## 6. Hot Ballistic Commitment
### Seduction
After being defeated by clutter designed for clever machines, Luce proposes the doctrine everyone assumes he started with: large guns, large reactor, armor, redundant systems, and radiators glowing like the sun while death is shone upon cowards trying to hide. It is funny because it is also correct.
Jo turns bravado into volume-fire doctrine. Samira defines violent translation windows. Edda makes overdrive survivable instead of theatrical. Mara approves of machinery whose danger is visible. Pal notes that Luce has finally discovered a hobby appropriate to his natural subtlety.
### Audition
Hot doctrine wins when quiet attackers need more time to identify and commit than the armored ship needs to make their likely volumes lethal. Redundant fire control keeps rounds on intended solutions after damage. Armor and repairable systems convert first-hit lethality into a brutal interruption race.
The wrong lesson is not that heat is irrelevant. It is that commitment can substitute for selection. A patient opponent attacks radiator roots, exhausts magazines with false volumes, pressures several repair neighborhoods, or simply declines the fight. A decoy threat can draw the Hot ship away while the real objective matures elsewhere. It may win every exchange it reaches and still lose the contract.
### Character Work
Jo gets an uncomplicated moment of joy. Luce earns credibility by embracing an inelegant doctrine and then ruins the moment by commissioning monogrammed recoil furniture. Samira later refuses his attractive pursuit because convoy protection, not capture, is the objective; Halcyon circulates the refusal as evidence that she lacks offensive nerve, narrowing one credible exit from Luce's crew. The crew learns he can adopt an idea culturally opposed to his self-image. The next lesson is that honesty about one's signature does not make every engagement worth taking.
### Economic Work
Ballistics export energy by spending mass. Ammunition, magazines, propellant, barrel wear, radiator repair, and transport make each glorious minute a procurement event. The moron strategy remains valid and cannot finance itself through indiscriminate use.
## 7. Mixed Drone Clouds
### Seduction
Every previous doctrine failed by becoming legible. Mixed clouds promise not one perfect role but many imperfect options: PDC drone, relay, heat ferry, spotter, beacon, illuminator, mine, Remora, terminal weapon, decoy, or recoverable scout. Components define capability; orders define present role.
Sable builds bounded retasking. The Twelvefold insists that contractual consent cannot be inherited from a hull's previous job. Mara demands a human-risk branch. Pal limits integration paths into the parent. Luce sees a tactical orchestra. Everyone else sees a scheduling dispute that can accelerate hard enough to kill them.
### Audition
A defensive PDC element drives offensively against enemy drones, forces a reveal, and locks down a battlespace while relays preserve track and Remorae exploit the opening. Leaning on a normally defensive capability wins a real matchup.
The wrong lesson is that flexibility cannot be countered. Every option consumes the resource that kept another option available. Retasking creates cognition load, authorization delay, link dependence, service conflict, and ambiguous recovery. An opponent can ignore identity, define consequence volumes, strike the parent, break links, or force contradictory tasks faster than the coalition can consent and verify. Mara withholds two rescue-capable platforms while Sable wants their robust handling systems used as relays. Preserving the reserve helps lose the capture; after fragment fire damages the launch blister, those same platforms recover two deck technicians. The allegedly unused capability turns out to have been performing its job.
### Character Work
This audition contains material for the final synthesis but cannot become the answer by itself. Sable voluntarily relinquishes central control during partition. The Twelvefold splits its two votes: the operational mandate carried by Chak favors using one shepherd as a relay, while the contract mandate carried by Tik-tik preserves both rescue craft until the false distress source is resolved. Internally, Kesh, Trraak, Khraa, Vek, Tik-tik, and Ek support the reserve; Chak, Qerr, Tlak, Ikk-rr, and Rruk support bounded relay use; Krrik records the split and refuses to manufacture unanimity. Mara must trust a remote screen while preparing bodily rescue. Luce must learn that command consists partly of declining options he can afford.
### Economic Work
Common hull grammar lowers some manufacturing and training costs while multiplying spares, software, certification, and service combinations. Flexibility is inventory held in several mutually inconvenient forms.
## Target And External Agency
| Doctrine | Target-side decision | External decision that changes later play |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Reversible Superiority | A relay operator cooperates after Tess guarantees passage and back wages; the later escort abandons cheap pickets to preserve its people. | Dena's service report reaches Tern Undertow; Nadi refuses to certify a refit schedule built on exceptional overtime. |
| Deep quiet | A chartered crew follows an irregular dump schedule because its hazard bonus depends on completing transit, not fighting pirates. | Rin's mother rejects deferred shares; Samira can no longer disguise payroll pressure as temporary bookkeeping. |
| Shaped ferries | The escort captain chooses cargo protection over solving every trace; the countering captain later declines the performance entirely. | A previously attacked sensor officer publishes the shaping family's historical inconsistencies, giving Halcyon a counter without omniscience. |
| Patient Hands | A target engineer exposes passenger coupling, refuses gratitude, and decides whether Mara's protective conduct becomes public. | Insurers require local confirmation and slower maintenance paths; ordinary crews pay for the countermeasure in repair delays. |
| Cognition and energy | Target technicians deliberately route control through ugly local fallbacks and sacrifice valuable apertures rather than surrender centralized authority. | Tavi Ro conditions further service on Sable sharing scarce calibration access with clinic patients. |
| Hot ballistics | The apparent threat withdraws before destruction while another operator completes the real contract objective. | A threatened convoy declines future protection after Samira's refusal is misreported as cowardice, costing her reputation and the crew work. |
| Mixed clouds | An escaped target crew distributes consequence-volume guidance and refuses to treat rescue-profile drones as proof of benevolence. | Wake-Without-Seal denies immediate replacement credit until casualty reserves and service labor are funded as real capabilities. |
## Refit Boundaries
| Doctrine | Platform boundary |
| --- | --- |
| Reversible Superiority | Hull One baseline: sixteen Courtesy drones, capture cannon, Remorae, pickets, and four relay/illuminator hulls. |
| Deep quiet | Hull One after thermal-mode, detachable-sink, passive-picket, and crew-procedure changes; no new weapon family required. |
| Shaped heat ferries | Later refit: the four relay/illuminator hulls receive carried-heat media and bounded emission panels; doing so displaces ordinary relay endurance and recovery margin. |
| Patient Hands | Hull One can audition the stocked eight Remorae and declared payload pairs; later campaigns require target-family libraries, replacement attachments, and boarding support. |
| Cognition and precision energy | Later hull or major refit adding energy mounts, capacitor and optical cooling, and premium cognition support while surrendering ballistic magazine, radiator, and maintenance capacity. |
| Hot ballistics | Later hull or major structural rebuild with heavier armor, larger magazines, distributed directors, accessible machinery, and radiator redundancy; not a software mode for Hull One. |
| Mixed clouds | Later refit or replacement hull combining physically installed capability bundles. Role changes remain bounded by launched hardware and cannot invent weapons, sensors, sinks, tow gear, or attachment systems in flight. |
## Comparative Audition
| Doctrine | Emotional promise | Honest strength | Hard counter family | Distinct story pressure |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Reversible Superiority | Mistakes need not be fatal or wasteful | Forces reveals with recoverable pressure | Recovery topology and return-lane attack | Property abandonment establishes trust |
| Deep quiet | Discipline can prevent commitment | Exploits scheduled behavior and information asymmetry | Heat debt, irregular maneuver, active illumination | Asceticism becomes control |
| Shaped ferries | Author the enemy's reality | Taxes classification and reveals architecture | Refusal to interpret, coarse diversity | Artistry cannot own its audience |
| Patient Hands | Preserve people and prizes | Selective subsystem coercion | Isolation, manual control, self-damage, moral refusal | Intact is not unharmed |
| Cognition and energy | Better knowledge permits cleaner violence | Fast precise subsystem disablement | Saturation, adversarial architecture, ballistic interruption | Intelligence must accept refusal |
| Hot ballistics | Honest force defeats clever uncertainty | Wins interruption races through armor and volume | Magazine/thermal attrition, declined engagement | Validity without universality |
| Mixed clouds | Flexibility prevents hard counters | Role ambiguity and integrated options | Link, authority, service, and task contradiction | Command means declining options |

It reveals twelve consent states, names as edited autobiography, simultaneous communication layers, juvenile extraction, cache obligations, and debate over whether Luce is trustworthy or merely safer. It never supplies a key to earlier identities.
## Recurring Support Crew
### Dena Vey - Deck Cell Lead
Forty-six, with industrial haptic armatures, tendon reinforcement, vestibular correction, and ammunition-toxicity filters serviced from common yard standards. Dena owns capture-throat safing and may halt recovery when heat, damage, or crew exposure crosses the deck limit. She supports a brother and his two children on Ganymede. Luce repeatedly mistakes her exceptional turnaround for unused capacity. She accepts dangerous overtime when remittance escrow is threatened, then records the coercion instead of calling it loyalty.
### Rin Adao - Plant And Atmosphere Technician
Thirty-one, with pulmonary membranes, blood-gas telemetry, pressure reflex work, and a cheap cortical overlay that translates atmosphere faults into spatial color. Filters and quarterly calibration are mandatory. Rin owns atmosphere-zone verification under Pal and Edda and may reject a compartment's return to service. Deep Quiet injures the very augment that lets Rin detect everyone else's safe breathing margin. Rin's mother depends on remittances and later refuses deferred shares in place of wages.
### Soren Ilyev - Watch And Ordnance Technician
Thirty-eight, with cochlear timing correction, retinal range overlays, radiation repair, and two fingers replaced after a magazine accident. Soren crosses between Watch and Deck during all-hands launch or recovery, making him familiar with both firing abstractions and the hands feeding them. He supports a partner retraining after automation displacement. During the mixed-cloud counter, Soren is one of two technicians trapped in the damaged launch blister; the named rescue reserve saves him after its tactical withholding helps lose the prize.
The other twelve support crew remain department-tracked until narrative work gives them recurring agency. No unnamed worker may appear with expertise absent from the five established cells.

# Simulation Seam Log
This ledger records mechanics suggested by narrative work. It is not story canon, executable simulation evidence, or an implementation backlog by default. Prose records what happened in the accepted story. This ledger records what a future combat model may need to represent if the maneuver proves important beyond its scene.
## Tactical Status
- **Established:** Supported by setting canon, accepted coarse invariants, or executable simulation.
- **Provisional:** Narratively admissible under known constraints but not represented or validated by formal simulation.
- **Contested:** Depends on an uncertain interaction. Prose may preserve that uncertainty, but the interaction cannot exclusively decide an engagement.
A provisional maneuver may decide an engagement when the outcome follows from coarse, insensitive constraints. A recovery queue that cannot physically clear before already-positioned loiterers arrive is admissible. A seeker defeating a mask because of an untested three-percent sensitivity advantage is not.
## Promotion Standard
Recommend promotion into simulation state when at least two conditions apply:
1. The mechanic decides more than one engagement.
2. A player or AI should deliberately invoke or counter it.
3. It consumes or preserves state the kernel cannot currently conserve.
4. It creates a new observable signal, cue, or information threshold.
5. It changes viable loadouts, manufacturing, or campaign economics.
6. Its numerical boundary materially affects balance.
7. It must survive observed/offscreen synchronization.
Promotion means the mechanic deserves explicit state, orders, costs, observables, and counterplay. It does not mean the novella waits for implementation.
## Entry Template
| Field | Record |
| --- | --- |
| Candidate | Short maneuver or mechanic name |
| Narrative use | Scene, doctrine, reversal, or character decision served |
| Existing state consumed | Heat, thrust, ammunition, cognition, geometry, labor, authority, money, or other established state |
| Missing state or transition | What the current kernel may not represent |
| Conservation constraints | What cannot be created, erased, reset, or silently moved |
| Counterplay | Previously available interruption or avoidance |
| Observable cues | What participants or players can notice |
| Outcome sensitivity | Robust, bounded, or numerical knife edge |
| Current status | Established, Provisional, or Contested |
| Promotion trigger | Which promotion conditions are met |
## Pass 5 Candidates
Exact schemas and database fixtures remain deferred.
| Candidate | Narrative use | Existing state consumed | Missing state or transition | Conservation and counterplay | Cues and sensitivity | Status / promotion |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Recovery-lane occupation | Defeat reusable drones without winning every drone exchange | Loiter time, terminal thrust, return arcs, recovery queue, heat, ammunition | Predicted recovery volumes and lane-denial orders | Loiterers spend time/impulse; stagger, relocate, fake return, abandon | Patient contacts near return fans; robust once arrival beats queue clear | **Provisional**; recurring player/AI choice and loadout effect meet promotion |
| Service labor as combat state | Make premium integration and heroic deck work materially consequential | Crew allocation, rails, ports, tools, stock, damage, fatigue | Labor assignment and casualty-dependent turnaround | Labor cannot service simultaneous tasks; distribute plant or reduce sortie density | Open panels, queues, deferred work; exact timing usually bounded | **Provisional**; campaign economics and synchronization justify promotion |
| Cold Choir | Preserve observation under deep-quiet network austerity through embodied Corvid carriage | Flight, optical exchange, isolated sensors, time, consent | Intermittent embodied communication and delayed fusion | Ravens spend location/time and risk; intercept or isolate routes | Missing updates and brief optical flashes; coarse result robust | **Provisional**; promote if repeated beyond one quiet campaign |
| Cross-platform signature narrative | Let several bounded emitters perform one coherent false event | Heat, aspect, motion, timing, links, cognition | Shared mask claims and historical consistency | Every claim pays real heat/motion; baselines and aspect forcing collapse it | Residual mismatches; robust for delay, contested at exact thresholds | **Provisional**; repeated player-facing counterplay meets promotion |
| Adversarial cognition attraction | Nerd-snipe a known architecture with expensive plausible interpretation | Emissions, architecture knowledge, cognition load, bandwidth | Task attraction, quarantine, graceful degradation | Attacker must know architecture and spend envelope; diversity/refusal counters | Branch growth and delayed assignments; behavior compulsion is sensitive | Load effect **Provisional**; guaranteed response **Contested** |
| Distributed subsystem authority | Let Remorae coerce several local systems without a universal hack | Attachment, network topology, power, local control, cognition | Per-subsystem authority and competing command provenance | No command crosses disconnected hardware; isolation/manual control counters | Conflicting acknowledgements and actuator delay; medium sensitivity | **Provisional**; recurring capture play and synchronization justify promotion |
| Dependency-coupled intrusion risk | Make technically successful control unacceptable because protected people share plant | Compartments, pressure, power, refuge state, control topology | Explicit dependency graph from action to inhabited spaces | Consequences follow real shared machinery; inspect or isolate to counter | Pressure anomalies and contradictory safety responses; high consequence | **Provisional**; promote if collateral assessment becomes deliberate play |
| Confidence fuses and Slow Vote | Stop classifier certainty silently becoming firing certainty under attack | Independent observations, authority, cognition isolation, geometry confidence | Typed confidence provenance and isolated decision path | Slower decisions consume terminal time; saturation remains counter | Divergent confidence and quarantined tasks; robust as authority mechanism | **Provisional**; promote if cognition attacks recur |
| Consequence-volume defense | Counter mixed clouds by acting on what any object can do in a region | Geometry, possible envelopes, area weapons, conduct policy, ammunition | Policy evaluation over regions rather than identities | Wide defense spends coverage, heat, ammunition, legal tolerance | Region-wide fire and ignored identities; strategically robust | **Provisional**; reusable anti-cloud doctrine merits promotion |
| Protected rescue reserve | Give operational value to deliberately withheld capability | Available craft, casualty state, authority floor, recovery geometry | Reserved-capability policy protected from ordinary allocation | Reserve is unavailable elsewhere and can be attacked or baited | Denied task requests and held-back craft; low combat, high survival sensitivity | **Provisional**; AI conduct and offscreen consistency justify promotion |
| Persistent cold ballistic hazard | Let Hot doctrine shape likely maneuver volumes without guidance emissions | Ammunition, muzzle solution, ballistic motion, time, navigation knowledge | Durable hazard-volume representation | Rounds cannot correct; maneuver, patience, or route change counters | Predicted coast volumes; exact density may be sensitive | **Provisional**; promote if volume fire recurs |
| Objective clock independent of destruction | Allow a ship to win exchanges and lose convoy, route, or contract | Geometry, mission deadline, protected actors, commitment | Explicit objective maturation and opportunity cost | One ship cannot occupy two volumes; refuse pursuit or split assets | Threat leaves defended objective; robust | **Established** narratively; kernel state promotion recommended |

- New mechanics normally begin as fast heuristic-kernel experiments. Once matchup sweeps establish desired dynamics and counterplay, those dynamics become the contract for frame-by-frame implementation; the live simulator then becomes execution ground truth for continuing conformance.
- A blueprint expresses technology and component arrangement with patent and licensing history. A crafting recipe or manufacturing run carries supply-chain provenance. A manufactured item instance is the actual branded or unbranded object entering inventory and combat. A loadout blueprint arranges those objects into a platform.
## Open State For Pass 5
## Pass 5 Strategy Auditions
- Exact scenario cards and normalized or physical values for seven candidate doctrines.
- Full deterministic event traces and counterfactual reruns.
- Policy thresholds for launch, reveal, abort, recovery, capture, and escape.
- Selection of which laboratory matchup becomes narrative history.
- Native database fixture population sufficient to express technological, manufacturing, legal, branded, and supply-chain variety without scenario-local equipment stats.
- Paired kernel/live-simulation conformance metrics, promotion/demotion tests, and performance measurements under hundreds of concurrent battles.
- Seven doctrines passed narrative audition without becoming equally mandatory campaigns.
- Reversible Superiority and Patient Hands have both favorable and counter causal packets; other selected campaigns receive full counter packets in Pass 6.
- Tactical claims use Established, Provisional, and Contested status under [[Simulation Seam Log]].
- Hull One recovery arithmetic is corrected; the recovery ambush does not yet establish hull destruction.
- Later doctrines have explicit refit or replacement-hull boundaries.
- Dena Vey, Rin Adao, and Soren Ilyev are recurring support crew with authority, dependants, and maintenance state.
- Target and external actors make decisions that constrain subsequent doctrine.
- Skeptical reviews accepted the pass after reconciliation.
## Open State For Pass 6
- Select six or seven campaigns and their emotional escalation.
- Decide which doctrines receive full cycles, combine, remain profitable, or are abandoned before combat.
- Establish every selected counter trace and any hull-loss damage chain.
- Assign refit and replacement-hull sequence, costs, social constraints, and accumulated residue.
- Preserve distinct narrative forms rather than repeating briefing, success, counter, invoice.

# Tactical Traces
These are narrative causal packets, not executable simulation traces. They preserve enough state for a skeptical reader to reconstruct why an engagement turned. Exact values remain provisional unless separately established.
## Trace Status
- **Established** claims follow accepted setting or material invariants.
- **Provisional** claims are robust narrative commitments that await formal simulation.
- **Contested** claims may color uncertainty but cannot exclusively decide an outcome.
## T-01: Courtesy Against A Sparse Screen
| Field | State |
| --- | --- |
| Objective | Strip a convoy's remote eyes and create surrender geometry without spending premium kill vehicles. |
| Geometry | Four widely separated small contacts ahead of one merchant and one cautious escort; no nearby cover for a second launch axis. |
| Pirate observation | Existence and rough motion resolved; roles unresolved. |
| Defender observation | Pirate parent bearing broad; Courtesy capabilities initially ambiguous. |
| False beliefs | Escort expects conventional spotters or loitering munitions and delays revealing PDC assignment. Luce expects every defender to remain equally cautious. |
| Reserves | Eight Courtesy drones retain proper recovery margin; cognition load remains below saturation; recovery lanes are uncontested. |
| Authority | Luce chooses objective and commitment; Sable owns drone roles; Jo owns PDC release and intended effect; Ilya owns confidence labels; Chak owns accepted geometry while every Twelvefold participant retains refusal. |
| Seeded capability | Recoverable PDC drones, capture cannon, Remorae, passive pickets, premium coordination. |
| Commitment | Courtesy drones cross the point where an abort still requires visible powered return. |
| Decisive effect | Distributed close sensors discriminate pickets from relay while PDC pressure forces the escort to reveal defensive geometry. |
| Credible interruption | Immediate active illumination and aggressive anti-drone fire could preserve the screen at the cost of revealing the escort sooner. |
| Competent alternative | Escort abandons two cheap pickets and burns away before surrender geometry forms. |
| Residue | Two pickets lost, relay captured, no people killed, six Courtesy recover cleanly, two return late; Luce calls servicing evidence that war has become refundable. |
**Status:** Established at coarse level; exact timings Provisional.
## T-02: Courtesy Recovery Ambush
| Field | State |
| --- | --- |
| Objective | Clear a heterogeneous contact field before a target reaches protected traffic. |
| Geometry | Cheap contacts spread across several bearings; cold loiterers remain outside the apparent screen with access to likely return fans. |
| Pirate observation | More contacts than classification can settle before fuel and heat make return necessary. |
| Defender observation | Outbound Courtesy arcs and intermittent servicing telemetry progressively constrain parent and recovery geometry. |
| False beliefs | Luce treats each recovered contact classification as progress rather than noticing the opponent is purchasing the return map. |
| Reserves | Sixteen drones use the twelve-percent maneuver rule; ammunition and heat vary; four throats and two rails remain physical limits. |
| Authority | Luce owns objective and commitment; Samira may abort; Sable staggers tasks; Jo owns every PDC release and intended effect; Ilya owns confidence; Edda protects cooling limits; participating Twelvefold members retain task refusal. |
| Seeded capability | Heterogeneous bait, shaped replays, patient lane loiterers, finite recovery service. |
| Commitment | The main wave begins powered return with too little reserve to relocate the recovery fan. |
| Decisive effect | Loiterers attack convergent recovery lanes and their shared service neighborhood rather than defeating deployed drones. |
| Credible interruption | Preserve twenty-two-percent reserve, recover in small groups, expend some drones as rear guard, or leave before contact clearing is complete. |
| Competent alternative | Samira orders abandonment of damaged Courtesy hulls and saves the parent at greater immediate cost. |
| Residue | Local drone exchanges favor the pirates; the open recovery plant takes damage and the capture is lost. Luce abandons drones and accepts mission failure rather than hold deck crew at exposed stations. Whether this becomes Hull One's eventual loss remains open for Pass 6 and requires a separate robust damage chain. |
**Status:** Established recovery bottleneck; lane-occupation details Provisional.
## T-03: Deep Quiet Against A Loud Hunter
| Field | State |
| --- | --- |
| Objective | Reach attachment range on an overconfident extraction escort without revealing the parent ship. |
| Geometry | Cold coast through ring clutter; target follows a scheduled radiator and thrust rhythm. |
| Pirate observation | Target history is strong but current subsystem condition is uncertain. |
| Defender observation | Several background-consistent traces, none worth an active reveal under its permit posture. |
| False beliefs | Defender assumes pirates cannot wait through an unprofitable window. Luce assumes discipline can make waiting free. |
| Reserves | Stored heat, low-power cognition, crew discomfort, and stale firing solutions become the real budget. |
| Authority | Ilya controls emission truth; Samira owns coast and abort; Edda sets crew and equipment thermal floors. |
| Seeded capability | Directional radiators, detachable sinks, passive baselines, and one stocked Patient Hand sensor/antenna Remora predeployed eighteen hours earlier on a ballistic path toward the target's scheduled radiator-dump volume. |
| Commitment | The ship accepts a coast that cannot be corrected without revealing thrust history. |
| Decisive effect | The prepositioned Remora attaches during the routine dump, blinds an aft sensor cluster, and threatens radiator-control authority. A debt-chartered crew with no bonus for martyrdom accepts Tess's credible passage and wage terms before active sensors rebuild geometry. |
| Credible interruption | Irregular maneuver and radiator schedule, expendable illuminator, or willingness to glow early. |
| Competent alternative | Target dumps cargo and departs on a random burn rather than defending the schedule. |
| Residue | Clean prize and exhilarating proof; crew and equipment emerge with thermal debt, stale work, and maintenance Luce mentally charges to “patience.” |
**Status:** Established heat debt; exact cold-coast performance Provisional.
## T-04: Shaped Heat-Ferry Kaleidoscope
| Field | State |
| --- | --- |
| Objective | Split an escort's attention and cause it to reveal which apparent merchant contains command cognition. |
| Geometry | Heat ferries and relays occupy plausible convoy positions while the pirate parent remains inside a bounded cousin-signature. |
| Pirate observation | Knows authored scene but not which interpretation the defender's architecture will privilege. |
| Defender observation | Several physically plausible histories: wounded tender, legal dump, courier, spent sink, and two contradictory command traces. |
| False beliefs | Defender trusts its architecture's anomaly ranking. Luce begins to believe authorship of the scene means authorship of the audience. |
| Reserves | Ferries carry finite heat and steering authority; parent owes deferred heat; adversarial patterns consume friendly and hostile cognition alike. |
| Authority | Ilya certifies envelope; Twelvefold composes emissions; Sable limits architecture-specific payloads; Luce selects tolerated legal risk. |
| Seeded capability | Post-Cold-Wake shaping, heat transfer, distributed emitters, adversarial cognition patterns. |
| Commitment | Ferries spend enough carried heat that they cannot resume cold recovery. |
| Decisive effect | Cargo-protection policy assigns active sensing and patient weapons to a physically plausible performed casualty; ordinary correction traffic and aspect change reveal the real command relay. Architecture-specific attraction increases delay but is not required. |
| Credible interruption | Use architecture diversity, deliberately crude human review, destroy the entire false scene, or decline interpretation and leave. |
| Competent alternative | Escort treats every contact as unsafe and protects its principal rather than winning classification. |
| Residue | One brilliant capture and a market for copies; Halcyon obtains the emission family and later fields a deliberately stupid classifier that refuses the bait. |
**Status:** Shaping bounds Established; architecture-specific puzzle payload Provisional.
## T-05: Patient Hand Capture
| Field | State |
| --- | --- |
| Objective | Preserve a high-value ship, cargo, and crew while ending resistance. |
| Geometry | Escort damaged enough for Remora attachment but still capable of destroying its own prize value. |
| Pirate observation | Several subsystem routes plausible; internal topology incomplete. |
| Defender observation | Knows attachment occurred but not whether payload targets reactor control, life support, datanet, sensors, or safing. |
| False beliefs | Luce treats non-destructive payloads as morally clean. Mara initially treats remote capture as avoidance of honest bodily risk. |
| Reserves | Remora power, adhesion, cognition, antidote, boarding time, target atmosphere, and crew panic all run separately. |
| Authority | Mara owns surrender and boarding safety; Sable owns remote autonomy; the Twelvefold owns accepted intrusion methods and individual task refusal; Jo owns destructive safing and payload release; Pal refuses life-support actions beyond the conduct envelope; Edda owns casualty thresholds. |
| Seeded capability | Configurable non-destructive subsystem payloads, boarding team, medical response, prize preservation. |
| Commitment | Remora crosses from reversible intrusion to a subsystem change that will compel immediate human response. |
| Decisive effect | Sensor and safing attacks deny confident resistance while a datanet payload opens surrender channels without disabling life support. |
| Credible interruption | Physical isolation, sacrificial network, manual safing, hull roll, counterboarding, or deliberate prize damage. |
| Competent alternative | Defender physically isolates the attacked buses, restores local safing, and uses hull-clearing charges while preserving people. |
| Residue | Luce sees humane precision; crew sees terrified prisoners, invasive medicine, and a system that can preserve property while violating minds. Mara protects an augmented captive before learning that the captive can restore prize certification. The captive refuses Mara's debrief, rejects gratitude, and later chooses independently whether to publish the pirates' conduct record. |
**Status:** Remora role Established; precise subsystem cascades Provisional.
## T-05B: False Sovereignty
| Field | State |
| --- | --- |
| Objective | Capture a later commercial hull without endangering its passengers or dependency cargo. |
| Geometry | Courtesy pressure creates attachment opportunity; only one service route offers plausible physical boarding access. |
| Pirate observation | Several Remorae report successful local authority, but the internal dependency map remains incomplete and reports disagree at one pressure boundary. |
| Defender observation | Knows the pirates' conduct limits and which apparent maintenance segments are sacrificial. |
| False beliefs | Luce and Sable initially treat agreement among several remote control acknowledgements as evidence that the ship is safe to board. |
| Reserves | Limited Remora detachment thrust, one boarding approach, narrowing withdrawal time; defender retains local controls, bus severance, and hull-clearing charges. |
| Authority | Sable owns Remora coordination; the Twelvefold owns accepted intrusion methods and individual task refusal; Mara owns physical crossing; Edda owns environmental limits; Jo owns destructive safing and payload release; Pal refuses environmental escalation; Luce owns continued commitment. |
| Seeded capability | Heterogeneous buses, false maintenance segments, local confirmation, passenger-refuge coupling, analog indicators, and hull-clearing charges all predate attachment. |
| Commitment | Mara's team enters the service route or Remora authority broadens into the disputed pressure system. |
| Decisive effect | A target engineer sends evidence that the apparent empty route shares pressure authority with a passenger refuge. Mara refuses entry before learning whether the engineer is useful to the prize. Luce backs the abort. |
| Credible interruption | Withdraw immediately, preserve remaining attachments, and accept loss of capture; pressing requires violating the conduct boundary. |
| Competent alternative | Defender severs sacrificial buses, clears attachments, and escapes damaged while publishing the pirates' intrusion signatures. |
| Residue | Two Remorae lost, target and passengers escape, boarding team unharmed, target testimony later shapes insurer countermeasures. The engineer refuses gratitude and controls whether Mara's conduct becomes public. |
**Status:** Dependency coupling and local isolation Established at coarse level; exact hostile safe-state competition Provisional.
## T-06: Premium Cognition And Precision Energy
| Field | State |
| --- | --- |
| Objective | End an engagement through rapid subsystem disablement before ballistic exchanges threaten crew. |
| Geometry | Direct enough for energy precision; target uses distributed decoys and sacrificial radiator surfaces. |
| Pirate observation | High-quality but cognition-intensive tracks with frequent contradictory micro-events. |
| Defender observation | Knows the pirate ship must pay power and heat for every precise shot and can estimate when its cognition stack is busiest. |
| False beliefs | Luce equates better decisions with fewer moral compromises. Sable mistakes auditable architecture for universally trustworthy architecture. |
| Reserves | Capacitor charge, reactor output, optical temperature, cognition throughput, targeting confidence, and crew authority. |
| Authority | Jo owns release and solution quality; Sable owns cognition allocation; Ilya owns track confidence; Edda may deny thermal margin. |
| Seeded capability | Premium sensing, high-throughput fire control, precision lasers, terminal subsystem models. |
| Commitment | Capacitors and cooling enter a firing cycle that makes immediate quiet or full maneuver impossible. |
| Decisive effect | Several accurate shots sever sensor and drive control faster than the target can restore them. |
| Credible interruption | Cognitive clutter, architecture-specific adversarial emissions, sacrificial skins, manual control, or a ballistic salvo requiring simultaneous defense. |
| Competent alternative | Target turns armor and redundant dumb control toward the laser while firing through uncertainty. |
| Residue | A nearly surgical victory validates Sable's stack; the next adversary saturates it with cheap events and forces slower people to decide what the premium system cannot rank safely. |
**Status:** Energy tradeoff and cognition load Established; exact precision cascade Provisional.
## T-07: Hot Ballistic Commitment
| Field | State |
| --- | --- |
| Objective | Break an ambush and force an escape corridor before quiet attackers can resolve terminal solutions. |
| Geometry | Pirate ship begins partially bracketed inside a constrained extraction corridor whose walls, protected traffic, and deadline bound the attackers' viable terminal volumes. Likely enemy volumes are known more strongly than identities. |
| Pirate observation | Uncertain objects but usable threat volumes and thrust histories. |
| Defender observation | Parent ship unmistakable and radiating at combat output. |
| False beliefs | Quiet attackers expect identification advantage to guarantee initiative. Luce initially treats heat as cowardice finally abolished by sufficient plumbing. |
| Reserves | Armor, redundant sensors, magazines, reactor load, radiator survival, crew acceleration tolerance, and finite firing-solution throughput. |
| Authority | Jo owns patterns and on-target solutions; Samira owns violent translation; Edda owns survivable overdrive; Luce chooses property exposure. |
| Seeded capability | Large reactor, redundant systems, armor, ballistic volume fire, radiators designed to remain useful while obvious. |
| Commitment | Full radiator deployment and magazine cycle make concealment impossible and retreat expensive. |
| Decisive effect | Ballistic patterns make likely terminal volumes lethal before quiet attackers finish discrimination, forcing them to maneuver and reveal. |
| Credible interruption | Attack radiator roots, exhaust magazines with false volumes, remain outside ballistic timing, or pressure several damage-control neighborhoods. |
| Competent alternative | Ambushers decline the engagement once the Hot ship commits instead of proving they can kill it. |
| Residue | The “moron strategy” saves everyone and earns Jo's delighted loyalty. Its operating bill, ammunition hunger, and inability to compel intact surrender remain appalling. |
**Status:** Doctrine Established; exact volume-fire effectiveness Provisional.
## T-08: Mixed Cloud Synthesis
| Field | State |
| --- | --- |
| Objective | Create options without committing the whole cloud to one role before the opponent reveals its shortest clock. |
| Geometry | PDC, relay, heat, sensor, Remora, and terminal-capable small hulls share overlapping but nonidentical routes. |
| Pirate observation | Partial and distributed; no participant holds complete scene truth. |
| Defender observation | Must infer current role from behavior rather than hull category. |
| False beliefs | Luce believes flexibility prevents hard counters. Crew knows flexibility also creates coordination, service, and authority debt. |
| Reserves | Cognition, links, fuel, heat, ammunition, service capacity, recovery lanes, and consented autonomy envelopes. |
| Authority | Luce owns objective and commitment; Sable allocates machine work; Jo owns every weapon and payload release; Ilya owns confidence; Twelvefold participants may refuse task changes outside contract; Mara owns rescue/boarding disposition; Pal protects parent integration. |
| Seeded capability | Component-defined small hulls and explicit retasking within physical loadout limits. |
| Commitment | Each hull spends the resource that keeps several roles open: heat, ammunition, geometry, network trust, or recoverable fuel. |
| Decisive effect | A defensive PDC element becomes an offensive drone screen while relays preserve track and two Remorae exploit the forced reveal. |
| Credible interruption | Break links, force contradictory tasks, attack service plant, exploit authorization delay, or present more simultaneous role changes than cognition can verify. |
| Competent alternative | Defender refuses the cloud's invitation and strikes the parent or objective instead. |
| Residue | The doctrine contains pieces of the final synthesis but is not universal. Its clean use requires Luce to stop treating every available option as one he personally owns. |
**Status:** Component-defined roles Established; rapid retasking and authority behavior Provisional.
