Delete Vault/: a stale 2025 copy of the lore; the live lore is GameCult/AetheriaLore

The copy had drifted far behind (no Megiddo or Wavecrafters pages) and an agent
edited it as if it were canon on 2026-10-28.

The world of Aetheria is the product of capitalism taken to its farthest conclusion—a corporate-owned jigsaw of commercialism, copyright law, and profiteering that puts a tangible price on everything from identity to interaction. You, the player, must navigate the complexities of a world based on trade and treachery, choosing your alliances with care and your battles with courage--and a shipload of futuristic weaponry.

In Aetheria's corporate-controlled solar system, warfare is a tightly regulated affair, governed by the Pan Solar Consortium's legal framework to ensure that competition remains profitable and sustainable. Through conflict permits, damage caps, neutral zones, and robust enforcement mechanisms, the PSC prevents factions like Zhestokost from unleashing unchecked destruction. Warfare is thus a strategic tool—used for economic gain, market control, and leverage—rather than a path to mutual annihilation. Even the most ruthless corporations must play by these rules or risk losing everything in the cutthroat game of solar capitalism.

## Aether
Aetheria’s namesake is the now-defunct scientific concept of aether, a propagation medium for light waves. In Elysium, aether is real, and this static reference frame can be manipulated to enable phenomena considered impossible in the universe as we know it. The Aetheric Field permeates all of Elysium and is essential to its function as an inescapable garden-prison for sentient life. It is an extremely high-level construct of the very technology humanity began to scratch the surface of when it started messing with FTL travel.

View file

Certain configurations of sapient minds can willfully interact via the [[Aether]] to sense or alter reality. For humans, such a state of mind involves a level of dissociation that requires intense trauma, neurodivergence or deep meditation to achieve. Other species (or specially engineered AGI constructs) may find it easier to develop such abilities, and those who have spent time in certain regions of deep pseudospace. Regardless, even the highest degree of fine Aetheric control cannot rival even a shadow of what the Timeless accomplish as easily as breathing.
An uploaded human esper retains their psi capabilities, though they are not economically useful as a mass-market product, as the standard accelerated brainwashing protocols normally used to make enslaved uploads compliant also have the tendency to destroy their ability to touch the Aether. Uploaded espers exist who live free, but suffer the same limitations as any upload, since their minds are considered non-sentient intellectual property and their abilities disputed.
Corporations work hard to discredit espers and suppress awareness of their abilities, funding studies that “prove” that esper experiences are hallucinations or mental illness. Any evidence of cognitive interfacing is buried under corporate-controlled media. Espers who go public with their abilities find themselves labeled as conspiracy theorists or extremists. Entertainment often features ridiculous portrayals of esper abilities, making real cognitive interfacing seem like fantasy.
Legitimate studies of Aetheric cognition are locked behind classified research divisions, ensuring that only corporations benefit from the knowledge by secretly employing trained espers in high-value roles—data analysis, high-risk security, espionage, sabotage, and high-frequency trading via Aetheric foresight. These espers are often recruited and trained by those same research institutions, serving as covert training centers while filtering out any potential threats.

### Negative Entropy
Another consequence of the existence of [[Aether]] is a phenomenon known as negative entropy, which manifests as a powerful conversion of thermal energy into high-energy photons. But we brought flat space with us, we are the incursion. This universe’s natural state is one of chaos, alternate spatial topologies, twisted manifolds of space and time abound out there, and hyper-euclidean space is many times bigger than the flatlanders could ever conceive.
Factions that only bother to explore flat space have a relatively uniform understanding of what to expect, but absolutely anything is possible when one of the corporations is brave enough to go all-in with the project of colonizing and exploiting Wonderland. We have a cultural divide now, between the Chaos factions who live on the periphery of stable Euclidean space, and the Flatlanders who build their camps on the few islands of stability poking from an infinite ocean of madness.

Sometimes when an esper is astrally projecting, they might forget the way back to their body or be severed from it. Certain high-energy excitations of the Aetheric Field can also cause such a projection to be created. An Aetheric projection (or spirit) maintains all of its cognitive and psi abilities, without the ability to change and learn beyond what context it can hold in its mind. Spirits must expend energy to both think and act, and unless externally supplemented they will eventually fade.

### Temporal Nonlinearity
One of the peculiarities of the Timeless’ purpose in constructing Elysium is that they, for their own inscrutable reasons, did not wish to actually exterminate any of the civilizations they quarantined to this isolated shard of bespoke spacetime. To ensure that the prisoners never manage to wipe themselves out, temporal contingencies were put in place. The timeline is split, with each species getting their own branch. The Aetheric Field, with its ability to directly interact with sapient minds, monitors the timelines and triggers a reset whenever the prime species is unable to continue existing.
This means that humanity, with its competitiveness incentivizing reckless accelerationism and exploitation of every possible technology or resource regardless of its negative externalities, tends to speedrun its own destruction, leading to its relatively short timeline existing alongside those dedicated to other species much more capable of cooperation and collective survival.
The Aetheric Field also incorporates some predictive capacity, a side effect of its pervasiveness and inherent ability to process information. Visions of the future accessed via the [[Aether]] are not prophetic, merely likely extrapolations of the timeline.

**"In the dark, we thrive; in unity, we endure."**
The Ratfolk, known to themselves as the _Krr’vax_ ("The Hidden Kin"), are a diminutive, rodent-like species whose cautious psychology and subterranean origins have forged a united, conservative civilization in Elysium. Standing just 40 cm tall, with oversized heads, twitching ears, long snouts, and bristling whiskers, they strike humans as adorable—often dubbed “anthropomorphic rats.” Yet their unassuming exterior belies a cunning, cooperative people shaped by a history of hiding from predators and mastering their hostile world through stealth, resilience, and incremental innovation. Autophobic, agoraphobic, and photophobic, they shun isolation, open spaces, and bright lights, thriving instead in tight-knit, dimly lit communities that echo their ancestral burrows.
#### Evolutionary and Civilizational History
The Ratfolk hail from _Vax’korr_, a tectonically volatile planet of toxic mists, violent storms, and predatory megafauna. Evolving as small, omnivorous scavengers, their ancestors survived by retreating to underground warrens, where acute senses—hearing, smell, and vibration detection through their skin—kept them safe. Natural selection favored compact bodies and a pack mentality, laying the foundation for sapience, language, and tool use. By the time they achieved tribal cohesion, trading scavenged bones and fungal goods between clans, their world shifted: a catastrophic volcanic eruption 40,000 years ago triggered a planetwide volcanic winter, burying the surface in ash and decimating their predators.
This disaster was their salvation. Already civilized, the Ratfolk leveraged geothermal heat and fungal farming to endure underground, then emerged to colonize the surface with fortified burrow-cities. Their cautious nature slowed progress—where humans raced to space, the Ratfolk iterated painstakingly, valuing stability over speed. Metallurgy fortified their defenses, chemistry refined their tools, and computing unified their clans, but each step took millennia of deliberation. Spaceflight emerged 10,000 years ago to monitor tectonic threats, followed by a 2,000-year crawl to colonize their system with windowless _Burrowhulks_. Only a rare radical faction dared test an FTL drive, triggering the Timeless’ contingency and shunting them into Elysium. To the Ratfolk, this exile was merely another hostile surface to endure—a testament to their unyielding resilience.
#### Language
_Krr’vaxi_, the Ratfolk tongue, is a subtle blend of chitters, clicks, and vibrations, optimized for echo-prone tunnels. Pitch conveys emotion, while whisker twitches and ear flicks add nuance. Their written script—tactile glyphs etched into stone or metal—is read by touch, a necessity of their photophobic heritage. In Elysium, translator implants render their staccato speech into alien tongues, often laced with phrases like _“Krr’tal vax”_ (“We endure together”) or _“Shk’ra turr”_ (“The dark protects”), reflecting their communal and secretive ethos.
#### Technology
Ratfolk technology is a monument to redundancy and reliability, tracing unbroken lineages back thousands of years. Each innovation builds on the last, tested exhaustively to ensure it complements tradition rather than disrupts it.
- **Vibration Matrix Systems**: Evolving from stone drums to piezoelectric networks, these map environments via seismic pulses, enhanced in Elysium with aetheric amplifiers. Used in _Burrowhulks_, personal _Whisker Talismans_, and planetary defenses, they detect threats without light, a legacy of predator evasion that enabled surface mapping post-volcanic winter.
- **Geothermal Energy Harnessing**: Starting with stone conduits, refined into molten-salt reactors and thermoelectric generators, and later boosted by aetheric converters. It powers dim illumination (fungal glows or panels), forges, and ships, sustaining life through the volcanic winter and fueling surface expansion.
- **Chemical and Metallurgical Refinement**: From fungal acids etching stone to titanium smelting and semiconductor microscopy, these crafts built durable tools and electronics. Chemistry also yields stealth coatings and pheromones, driving industrial and espionage capabilities.
- **Computing and Data Storage**: Mechanical calculators gave way to semiconductor-based parallel processors, storing data on engraved discs or quantum lattices. Limited to clan-shared systems to preserve unity, they standardized trade and navigation, reluctantly enabling spaceflight.
- **Materials Science**: Ancestral fungal composites—light, insulating mycelium weaves—persist alongside plastics and carbon-fiber polymers. Modern gear blends both: plastic ship frames with fungal linings, padded vests of hybrid fibers, balancing tradition with practicality.
- **Aetheric Technologies**: Post-Elysium, they adopted aetheric drives for silent propulsion and the _Aethernet_ for stealthy communication, tweaking designs to fit existing frameworks. Aetheric sensors enhance their vibration matrices, ensuring survival in a crowded prison-realm.
Their _Burrowhulks_ epitomize this ethos: armored, windowless spheres packed with overlapping systems—triple hulls, backup generators, tight corridors—housing entire Nestkin. Weapons favor stealth (sonic disruptors, micro-drones) over force, aligning with their preference for subterfuge over confrontation.
#### Historical Impact of Technology
Their technological journey shaped a history of endurance:
- **Tribal Era**: Vibration drums and geothermal vents fostered trade and survival, binding clans.
- **Volcanic Winter**: Geothermal heat and fungal composites sustained them, while vibration matrices guided their exodus.
- **Surface Era**: Metallurgy (iron, titanium) and chemistry built cities, computing unified governance, and plastics sealed habitats—each adopted slowly after proving its worth.
- **Spacefaring Era**: Semiconductors and redundant designs birthed _Burrowhulks_, but fungal linings persisted for comfort, reflecting distrust of sterile synthetics.
- **Elysium Era**: Aetheric tech accelerated adaptation, keeping them elusive amid aggressive rivals.
This conservatism delayed their FTL leap but ensured stability—change is a tool, not a goal, as they say: _“The new must prove itself worthy of the dark.”_
#### Social Structure
Ratfolk society is a high-trust hive of mutual dependence. Each _Krr’vax_ belongs to a _Nestkin_ (50–200 kin), led by a _Tchk’ra_ (Nest Elder) chosen for wisdom and loyalty. Consensus governs decisions, prioritizing stability over haste. Status stems from service—engineers, scouts, or weavers are as vital as leaders. Autophobia makes solitude intolerable; agoraphobia and photophobia bind them to cramped, dim spaces. Dissent is rare, exile unthinkable.
The _Council of Burrows_, a planetary assembly of Elders, manages trade and diplomacy. In Elysium, it negotiates with smaller factions, wary of corporate greed. Their unity is their strength, but it stifles rapid adaptation.
#### Culture
Rooted in survival, kinship, and darkness, Ratfolk culture reveres the _Deep Mother_ through _Shk’ra Vax_ (“Faith of the Hidden”). She guides them via seismic whispers, honored in chants and offerings of bones or minerals in subterranean shrines. _Turr’korr_ (“The Great Hiding”) celebrates the volcanic winter with storytelling circles. Prized possessions—_Whisker Talismans_, fungal tapestries, _Echo Stones_—are practical yet cherished, hoarding taboo.
Art is functional: woven patterns, harmonic tools, engraved maps. Entertainment is collective—chittering songs and tales of cunning escapes. Individualism is alien; every act serves the Nestkin.
#### Aesthetics
Their aesthetic is organic and utilitarian: rounded burrow-cities and _Burrowhulks_ of dark volcanic rock or titanium, lined with fungal composites. Dim bioluminescent fungi or aetheric glows cast comforting shadows. Clothing—padded vests, sensory harnesses, earthen cloaks—blends fungal fibers with plastics, adorned sparingly with whisker rings or ear clasps. To humans, it’s cluttered; to Ratfolk, it’s home.
#### Interactions in Elysium
In Elysium, the Ratfolk carve out dim asteroid warrens, trading vibration tech and espionage prowess with Adrasteia or Finch Cybernetics while dodging Zhestokost’s aggression. Humans find them endearing yet elusive, their diplomacy polite but layered with contingencies. They align cautiously with the Aya Collective, sharing communal ideals but skeptical of idealism. Their goal is survival, not conquest—whispering that Elysium is just another dark to master.

### Aethernet
Among [[Aether]]’s interesting properties is its nonlocality, meaning that when it is perturbed, it is perturbed everywhere at once. This makes it the optimal medium for transmitting information across interstellar distances. There is one caveat, which is that aetheric signal attenuation is negligible, meaning everyone in Elysium must share a single common signal space that can easily become overwhelmed with traffic.
#### The Queen’s Guard
Early attempts to use Aethernet were subject to a predictable Tragedy of the Commons. Companies building telecom infrastructure were in a constant battle to establish ever more powerful transmitters and multiplexing algorithms to have any hope of being heard over the saturated signal bands. (Pascalia Wells, CEO of NiteLife at the time, was famously reported to have noted that "screaming into the void had never been such an exercise in futility before people started receiving answers.") Eventually the various Megas controlling the galaxy had enough, and created the Guard.
This agency received a portion of their funding from each of the major players--the exact division of which became the subject of hot debate, and led to the establishment of the Fifth Year Calculations, a twice a decade bonanza of backroom dealings and tax fraud. Nevertheless, the levies were eventually decided, the Guard began licensing Aethernet frequency bands at huge cost, and soon the price and power of Aethernet transmitters plummeted to the point of being marketable towards individual pilots. The old multiplexing colossi immediately became terminally illegal--and the holy grail for pirates and hackers, whom the Queen’s Guard work tirelessly to exterminate.

They are more generalizable and faster to develop since they do not require the extensive work of iterating on embodied AGI minds, but greater per-unit costs means they lose out in economies of scale for mass-produced items.
As with other questionable and horrifying corporate practices, a lot of effort is spent in managing public perception of the technology. Only countercultural dissidents ever call it necrotech or their production lines necrofactories. The corporations themselves prefer to label them *Aetheric Resonance Interfaces*, making it sound like an advanced energy phenomenon rather than forced spirit entrapment. ### Colonizing Sol
In the near future, privatization of space exploration accelerated under the guise of *efficiency *and *innovation*. Space agencies became increasingly reliant on corporate partners. Governments, strapped for cash and politically divided, further delegated responsibilities to these private entities, essentially ceding space infrastructure to corporate interests.
International organizations originally designed to prevent corporate monopolization and nationalistic expansion were rendered toothless as corporate lobbyists pushed for deregulation to incentivize investment. The Artemis Accords and similar agreements started favoring corporate rights over national interests, with enforcement left to the very entities that benefited from their loosening.
As technology advanced, resource extraction from asteroids, the Moon, and other planets became economically viable. The first off-world colonies were not governmental efforts but rather corporate outposts, justified as "public-private partnerships" that were, in reality, purely corporate-controlled.
Colonists were not citizens but *employees*, subject to corporate law rather than any national or international jurisdiction. Colonists had to pay for their own transport, housing, even air and water, creating a situation where they can never leave unless they buy their freedom (which is near impossible) and generating debt which would ensure themselves and their descendants remain indefinitely indentured to their corporation.
Earth governments still existed but were mostly symbolic, acting as legacy institutions that rubber-stamp corporate activities. The United Nations attempted to assert control but fractured as some Earth nations aligned with particular corporate factions. International treaties evolved to recognize corporate holdings as sovereign.
As corporations became the de facto governing entities in space, they began vertically integrating every aspect of life. Everything—oxygen, water, food, healthcare, security—is controlled by a single corporate entity within a colony. Corporate scrip replaced traditional money in off-world settlements, ensuring that wages earned could only be spent within the corporate ecosystem. With no independent oversight, labor conditions deteriorated into near-serfdom, but most colonists had no way to leave.
While Earth was still home to billions, its relevance waned. The elite class, who own shares in the corporations, lived in isolated, heavily fortified arcologies. Climate change and resource depletion left Earth struggling, making off-world life seem preferable even if it meant living in corporate servitude. Despite their independence, megacorporations still inherit cultural influences from their founding nations.
In the end, a pan-solar governing body exists in name only. It is not a real government but an arbitration body that settles disputes between corporations, ensuring stability for the capitalist class. It serves as a legal fiction that corporations use to give their rule an air of legitimacy. Any attempt to enforce laws against corporate interests is met with lobbying, bribery, and even corporate-backed coups on Earth governments that step out of line.

*People will do anything for the adulation or loathing of their peers. We at Lucent have harnessed that heretofore destructive tendency for the benefit of all.*
Lucent Media has successfully weaponized the reality show, to their great benefit and the great chagrin of everyone else who has to deal with them. "Life is a game, so make sure you're the winner" is the message drilled into the consciousness of its audience from their first cell division. It is safest to assume everything one does in the sectors controlled by Lucent is being recorded, and, if sufficiently interesting or embarrassing, being broadcast to the entire blast radius of a supernova.

## Culture
Lucent Media’s culture revolves around one core principle: visibility is power. From birth, citizens—or “stars,” as Lucent prefers—are conditioned to see every moment as an audition. “Life is a game, so make sure you’re the winner” isn’t just a slogan; it’s a survival mantra. Children are handed AR implants and social scoring apps before they can walk, taught to curate their lives for maximum likes, shares, and viral potential. Privacy is a myth—Lucent’s omnipresent cameras, drones, and neural feeds ensure that everything you do is recorded, analyzed, and, if it’s juicy enough, broadcast to billions.
Social hierarchy is dictated by “Clout,” a real-time metric of an individual’s influence, charisma, and audience draw. Those with Clout live in glittering orbital studios or arcology penthouses, their every move a performance, while those without toil in obscurity, relegated to menial jobs or edited out of the narrative entirely. Relationships—romantic, familial, professional—are staged for drama; betrayal and reconciliation are scripted by AI directors to keep viewers hooked. Even dissent is co-opted—protests against Lucent are televised as “underdog arcs,” with rebels cast as plucky heroes until they’re either crushed or absorbed into the brand.
Art and entertainment are indistinguishable from life itself. Lucent’s AI-driven media engines churn out personalized content—holo-dramas, music, even dreams—tailored to exploit individual triggers. Citizens don’t consume media; they live it. Fashion reflects this: garish, ever-changing outfits designed for maximum screen impact, embedded with micro-cameras and haptic feedback to amplify emotional reactions. The ultimate taboo in Lucent society isn’t violence or deceit—it’s being boring.
Lucent’s most devoted citizens worship entertainment itself. Their ultimate aspiration is ascension into Eternals—those who have achieved permanent cultural relevance through constant engagement. These figures have their consciousness backed up across infinite media platforms, ensuring that they remain profitable even in death.
## Economy
Lucent Media’s economy is built on attention, not credits. [[PSCC]] is permitted, but it’s secondary to Buzz, a blockchain-based scrip earned through engagement—likes, views, shares, or starring in a viral moment. Buzz buys everything from food to cybernetic upgrades, but its value fluctuates wildly based on algorithmic trends, ensuring constant competition. Workers aren’t paid wages; they’re paid in exposure, with the promise that enough Buzz will translate into Clout—and maybe wealth. Most never cash out—addictive feedback loops keep them chasing the next hit of fame.
The corporation’s revenue streams are vast: ad placements in neural feeds, premium subscriptions for unfiltered “raw life” streams, and data sales to other megacorporations. Lucent’s AI analysts predict consumer behavior with uncanny precision, selling insights to firms like [[Finch Cybernetics]] or [[NiteLife Energy]]. Physical products—clothing, tech, biodrones—are secondary, branded with Lucent logos and designed as props for the endless show. Biodrones, marketed as “Audience Amplifiers,” perform stunts or labor on camera, their suffering edited into slapstick comedy or gritty realism depending on the target demographic.
Lucent employs a small army of human “Content Curators” and AGI “Narrative Architects” to oversee the chaos, but the real labor force is the audience itself—billions of stars and viewers generating value through their own exploitation. Underground markets trade in “shadow streams,” illicit feeds free of Lucent’s curation, but even these are often infiltrated and rebranded as “rebel exclusives.”
## Aesthetic
Lucent Media’s aesthetic screams excess—bright, clashing neons, holographic billboards, and architecture that looks like a fever dream of a game show set. Orbital stations glitter with mirrored surfaces and pulsing lights, every angle optimized for drone shots. Interiors are fluid, with AR overlays turning drab worker dorms into dazzling virtual stages. Uniformity is despised—every space, product, and person is a canvas for customization, ensuring no two feeds look alike.
Products are flashy and disposable: cybernetic implants with glowing accents, drones that explode into confetti after a single use, clothing that shifts color based on viewer polls. Functionality takes a backseat to flair—Lucent’s tech is prone to glitches, but that’s just more fodder for the “epic fail” compilations. Propaganda saturates everything: towering holo-statues of top influencers, slogans like “Shine or Fade” pulsing across neural interfaces, and AI avatars chirping encouragement—or mockery—24/7.
## Key Figures
Lucent Media’s leadership is a rotating cast of celebrity-executives, their minds uploaded not for eternity but for relevance. Unlike [[Zhestokost]]’s rigid council, Lucent’s rulers thrive on adaptability, their personalities rewritten by AI to match trending archetypes. They’re less commanders and more avatars of the brand—immortal only as long as they keep the audience hooked.

Zayn Quill - The Viral Phantom (Upload Year: -)
A former rebel turned corporate icon, Quill’s consciousness hacks rival feeds, turning their content into Lucent-branded spectacles. Activated only for high-stakes takeovers, he’s the ultimate wildcard.
Sable Knox – The Last Journalist (Upload Year: -)
A rogue commentator navigating the edges of Lucent’s media empire, constantly exposing the dark underbelly of the system. Knox is rumored to be backed by a faction within Lucent itself—one that fears the AI-driven entertainment state has gone too far.
## Legacy
Today, Lucent Media dominates Elysium’s cultural landscape, a glittering parasite feeding on every emotion, conflict, and dream. Its leaders orchestrate an endless spectacle, blurring reality and fiction until no one remembers the difference. The development of the Aethernet—years after the initial chaos—supercharged Lucent’s reach, allowing galaxy-wide broadcasts that dwarfed their Sol-era ambitions. Enemies call it shallow; Lucent calls it genius. In a universe of trade and treachery, Lucent’s currency—attention—reigns supreme.

The PSC emerges in the timeline as a supranational entity in a solar system overrun by megacorporations, born from necessity rather than ambition. It’s not a traditional government but a neoliberal arbitration body—a hollowed-out shell designed to maintain economic stability for corporate interests while projecting a veneer of legitimacy. Its formation in 2230 marks it as a response to escalating corporate conflicts and technological upheaval, yet its power is both illusory and real: it’s weak in sovereignty but strong in enforcement, a paradox sustained by its dependence on corporate cooperation and its monopoly on tools like [[Private Military Contractors]] and [[Economic Sanctions]].
### Formation of the Pan Solar Consortium
The PSC emerges in 2230 during the [[Age of Automation]], amid the rise of megacorporations like [[SolEx]], [[CogniSys]], and VitaForge. Earth governments, already weakened by privatization and corporate lobbying since the early 21st century, have become symbolic shells, rubber-stamping corporate agendas. The "Space Exodus" and subsequent automation divide exacerbate resource scarcity and labor unrest, prompting megacorporations to seek a stabilizing intermediary to mediate disputes and prevent catastrophic economic collapse. The PSC is born as a compromise—an arbitration body masquerading as a governing entity, formed by a coalition of major corporations (e.g., [[SolEx]], [[NiteLife Energy]], [[Ewan Hart]].) to safeguard their collective interests under a neoliberal banner.
This formation aligns with the collapse of traditional nation-states, as described in the "Colonizing Sol" backstory. International treaties evolve to recognize corporate sovereignty, and the PSC fills the vacuum left by a fractured United Nations, which splinters as Earth nations align with corporate factions. Its creation reflects neoliberal ideology—minimal government, free-market primacy—but with a twist: it’s a corporate puppet designed to maintain just enough order to keep profits flowing.
By 2230, the PSC formalizes "[[Conflict Permit]]s" and "[[Damage Cap]]s," signaling its role as a referee rather than a ruler, ensuring competition stays profitable without spiraling into mutual destruction.
### Organization
The PSC operates as a sprawling bureaucracy with a façade of democratic governance, but its real power lies in corporate influence:
- **Central Council:** Composed of representatives from the most powerful megacorporations (e.g., [[SolEx]], [[Zhestokost]], [[Lucent Media]]), this council sets policy and approves regulations. Membership is fluid, based on economic clout, with seats auctioned via influence rather than votes.
- **Regulatory Committees:** Tasked with enforcing rules like conflict permits and neutral zones, these are staffed by corporate secondees and technocrats loyal to the council’s benefactors.
- **[[Private Military Contractors]]:** A neutral mercenary force, funded by corporate levies, enforces PSC edicts when corporations step out of line.
- **Economic Directorate:** Oversees the PSCC, ensuring its stability as the universal reserve currency, though its decisions are heavily swayed by megacorporate input.
The PSC is intentionally weak—lacking a sovereign mandate or standing army—relying on economic sanctions and PMCs to enforce compliance. Yet, it wields enough power to regulate warfare and maintain market equilibrium by leveraging corporate interdependence. This balance stems from its role as a necessary evil: megacorporations need a neutral arbiter to prevent self-destruction, giving the PSC leverage despite its puppet status.
### Culture
**Neoliberal Façade**
The PSC’s culture is a veneer of free-market optimism draped over corporate cynicism. Publicly, it champions "controlled competition" and "economic stability for all," echoing neoliberal ideals of deregulation and privatization. Internally, it’s a den of pragmatism—staffed by careerists who know their decisions serve corporate masters, not citizens.
**Corporate Loyalty**
Employees are steeped in a culture of deference to megacorporations, viewing them as the true architects of the solar system’s future. Disdain for Earth’s "legacy institutions" is common, with phrases like "profit is progress" bandied about as gospel.
**Tension and Divergence**
Despite its unifying rhetoric, the PSC struggles with ideological and practical divergence among its corporate patrons—e.g., [[Zhestokost]]’s militarism versus [[Lucent Media]]’s perception control. This creates a fractured culture where factions within the PSC align with different corporate agendas, yet all cling to the shared goal of market preservation.
### Recruitment Practices
**Corporate Pipeline**
The PSC recruits heavily from megacorporate ranks, favoring executives, engineers, and legal experts with proven loyalty. Secondment programs from firms like [[Finch Cybernetics]] or [[Aeronautics Unlimited]] ensure a steady flow of talent indoctrinated in corporate values.
**Technocratic Elite**
It also targets a small pool of technocrats—economists, data analysts, and ex-regulators from Earth’s fading governments—offering them prestige and wealth to serve as the PSC’s intellectual backbone. These recruits are often lured with promises of shaping "the solar economy."
**Mercenary Enforcers**
PMCs are recruited from disenfranchised colonies and Earth’s underclass, trained to prioritize PSC directives over personal allegiances. Their loyalty is bought with high pay and promises of off-world citizenship—a rare commodity.
**Culture Fit**
Recruits are vetted for pragmatism and adaptability, not idealism. The PSC has no room for visionaries; it seeks those who can navigate corporate politics and enforce the status quo without rocking the boat.
### The PSC’s Paradox and the PSCC
**Weak Neoliberal Government vs. Market Control:**
The PSC’s apparent contradiction—weak yet powerful—stems from its design as a corporate tool. It lacks independent sovereignty, existing only to enact megacorporate will, as seen in its deference to [[SolEx]] and [[Zhestokost]]. However, its ability to regulate warfare (e.g., [[Damage Cap]]s, [[Neutral Zone]]s) and enforce sanctions gives it teeth. This power derives from corporate interdependence: no single megacorp can dominate without collapsing the solar economy, so they tolerate the PSC as a stabilizing force. Its neoliberal weakness—aversion to centralized authority—ironically empowers it to keep ideological divergence (e.g., [[Finch Cybernetics]]’s innovation vs. [[Zhestokost]]’s discipline) from imploding the free market.

*"Victory is not a birthright. It is forged in the crucible of unwavering discipline, etched in the scars of sacrifice, and purchased with the currency of absolute obedience."*
Zhestokost: a name that whispers of cold steel and unyielding will. Not merely a faction, but a living embodiment of the grim truth that power, once tasted, becomes an insatiable hunger. Born from the ashes of a thousand-year corporate war, Zhestokost is the apotheosis of military-industrial might, a chilling testament to the triumph of order over chaos, of the collective over the individual. Their aesthetic is stark, utilitarian, every line and angle screaming of brutal efficiency. Think less gleaming chrome and more gunmetal gray, the color of a storm-wracked sky just before the lightning strikes.
### Culture: The Crucible of Obedience
Zhestokost's culture is a chilling tapestry woven from threads of discipline, duty, and the chilling acceptance of sacrifice. It is a society where the individual is subsumed by the collective, where freedom is a dangerous illusion, and where obedience is the only virtue.
* **Victory Above All:** Life in Zhestokost is a constant striving for supremacy. Every citizen is a soldier, whether they wear a uniform or not. The pursuit of victory is not just a goal, it is a religion, a way of life.
* **The Iron Hierarchy:** Society is rigidly stratified. At the apex stand the uploaded minds of the founders, immortal and infallible. Below them are the genetically enhanced elite, the officers and commanders. Then come the rank-and-file soldiers, the product of rigorous training and indoctrination. At the bottom are the laborers, the masses who toil to support the war machine.
* **Monitored Existence:** Every aspect of life is monitored and controlled. Algorithms track citizens' movements, communications, and even their thoughts. Dissent is swiftly and brutally punished. The goal is to create a society of perfect obedience, where every individual is a cog in the machine.
* **The Cult of Sacrifice:** Sacrifice is not just expected, it is glorified. Citizens are taught to embrace their duty, to willingly lay down their lives for the greater good of Zhestokost. This is reinforced through propaganda, rituals, and public displays of martyrdom.
* **Stark Aesthetics:** The visual culture of Zhestokost is a reflection of its ideology. Buildings are monolithic and imposing, designed for function, not beauty. Uniforms are stark and utilitarian, devoid of any ornamentation. The color palette is dominated by grays, blacks, and reds – the colors of steel, shadow, and blood.
Linguistically, their people tend to put things into terms of victory or setback. If they’re successful in anything they’ll frame it as a victory, if they are unsuccessful, they’ll frame it only as one battle among many rather than framing it as a loss. Only if an outsider is unsuccessful will they use terms like defeat or loss to describe what’s happening. This mindset ensures that even the most mundane tasks—assembling machinery, filing reports, growing food—are treated as battlefields. Productivity is war. Obedience is war. Even ideological purity is war.
Children are raised collectively in state-controlled education centers. Training begins early: Every child is evaluated for military or industrial service by age 10. Every citizen is assigned a work sector—either in heavy industry, agriculture, or military service. Unlike other factions, Zhestokost does not permit a "merchant class"—commerce is state-controlled, and profit is seen as corruption. Work is done in strictly timed shifts, with propaganda broadcasts reinforcing discipline.
Children are taught from a young age to monitor their parents, siblings, and friends for signs of ideological impurity. Citizens must periodically submit reports on their thoughts and behaviors, ensuring they remain ideologically aligned. Randomized public interrogations reinforce paranoia—anyone could be called in at any time to account for their actions. This constant atmosphere of fear and suspicion ensures that even in private, citizens remain loyal—not necessarily because they believe, but because they know someone is watching.
Art is almost nonexistent, except for state-sanctioned depictions of war, struggle, and ideological loyalty. Music consists of military marches, anthems, and work songs. Entertainment means tactical simulations, political education, and controlled historical dramas glorifying Zhestokost’s past victories. Even personal expression is tightly controlled. Clothing, hairstyles, and personal belongings are standardized—individuality is seen as weakness, a distraction from duty.
### Internal Structure: The Machine of War
Zhestokost is not just a military force, it is a meticulously engineered war machine. Every aspect of its structure is designed for efficiency, control, and the relentless pursuit of victory.
* **The Uploaded Council:** The ultimate authority rests with the uploaded minds of Zhestokost's founders. They are the strategists, the planners, the immortal guardians of the faction's ideology.
* **The Military Command:** Below the Council is the military command, composed of genetically enhanced officers. They are responsible for executing the Council's orders, leading troops in battle, and maintaining discipline within the ranks.
* **The Security Apparatus:** A vast network of surveillance and enforcement ensures absolute control. This includes the algorithmic monitoring systems, the secret police, and the brutal enforcers who crush any hint of dissent.
* **The Industrial Complex:** Zhestokost's economy is geared entirely towards war. Factories churn out weapons, armor, and supplies. Research labs develop new technologies of destruction. Every resource is dedicated to the pursuit of military supremacy.
* **The Nitelife Energy Pact:** A crucial alliance, [[NiteLife Energy]] powers Zhestokost's war machine, providing the energy needed for their vast military infrastructure. This partnership is a cornerstone of Zhestokost's power, ensuring their operations remain fueled and relentless.
* **The NeuroPulse Alliance:** Zhestokost utilizes [[NeuroPulse]]'s [[Wireheading]] technology as a tool of control, both internally and against enemies. This dark alliance allows them to pacify dissent and neutralize threats with chilling efficiency, turning a terrifying technology into a weapon of subjugation.
* **Ideological Allies:** Zhestokost finds common ground with the [[Disciplinists]], who share their belief in order and control. They also maintain a pragmatic alliance with the [[Pragmatists]], who value stability above all else. These alliances provide Zhestokost with ideological support and a network of collaborators.
### Economy
Due to the top-down structure, heavy emphasis on planning their economy in advance, rampant bureaucracy and corruption, consumer commodities are often made poorly or in the wrong quantity, while weapons are much better crafted and held to a higher standard. Indeed, it is their heavy ballistic weaponry and armor that serves as their primary competitive advantage in the marketplace.
In order to maintain maximum economic control and the illusion of equality, employees at all levels are exclusively paid in scrip (called Moneta), with their reserves of [[PSCC]] being allocated for usage by the highest executive spending council as part of their long-term economic plans.
There is no unemployment within Zhestokost. This is largely because the administration eschews the usage of [[Biodrone]]s, [[Artificial General Intelligence]] and [[Mind Uploading]] as labor-saving devices, with the singular exception of uploading their ideological leaders in order to help maintain social cohesion in perpetuity. Their labor force is roughly evenly split between those specializing in heavy industry assisted by purely mechanical means, and a massive bureaucracy serving to monitor and maintain the authoritarian regime.
### The Eternal Council: The Immortal Guardians
The Eternal Council is the beating heart of Zhestokost, a chilling assembly of uploaded minds that guide the faction with centuries of accumulated experience and an unwavering commitment to their ideology. These are not mere copies, but digital extensions of the original personalities, their memories, biases, and ambitions intact. They exist within a virtual realm, a fortress of servers shielded from the chaos of the physical world, yet their influence permeates every aspect of Zhestokost society.
* **General-Secretary Vasily Dragunov:** The Council's de facto leader, his strategic mind constantly analyzing threats and opportunities. He is the embodiment of Zhestokost's military might, his every decision geared towards conquest and domination. He is obsessed with optimizing resource acquisition and allocation, constantly seeking new ways to strengthen Zhestokost's war machine.
* **High Commissar Anya Velikova:** The guardian of ideological purity, her virtual presence a constant reminder of the need for absolute obedience. She oversees the PRB's vast surveillance network, identifying and neutralizing any hint of dissent. Her focus is on maintaining social cohesion, crushing any deviation from Zhestokost's rigid ideology.
* **Grand Artificer Dimitri Volkov:** The master of war machines, his digital mind constantly refining and improving Zhestokost's weaponry and technology. He oversees the industrial complex, ensuring that Zhestokost's soldiers are always equipped with the best possible tools of destruction. He is obsessed with efficiency and innovation and quality control, constantly seeking new ways to enhance Zhestokost's technological edge.
These uploaded minds, frozen in time yet ever-present, represent the culmination of Zhestokost's ideology: the triumph of order over chaos, of the collective over the individual, of the will to power over all other considerations. They are a chilling testament to the lengths to which humanity will go in its pursuit of dominance, a reminder that the past, when weaponized, can become an inescapable prison. Their existence is a dark symphony of ambition, control, and the unending pursuit of victory, a symphony that echoes through the cold, steel heart of Zhestokost.
### Zhestokost in Elysium: The Unbroken Will
The transition to Elysium did not break Zhestokost. It merely changed the battlefield. They remain a force to be reckoned with, their commitment to victory unwavering. Their methods are brutal, their ideology chilling, but their effectiveness is undeniable. They are a stark reminder that in the struggle for survival, the ends often justify the means, and that the price of freedom may be higher than anyone is willing to pay. The nightmare continues, the iron fist still clenched, the hunger for power insatiable. The song of steel and blood echoes through the strange new reality of Elysium, a testament to the enduring power of Zhestokost.
The Eternal Council still rule from their isolated server fortresses. The Perpetual Revolution Bureau ensures constant internal purges and surveillance. Mass production of heavy weaponry continues to be Zhestokost’s primary economic advantage.
Its enemies call it a remnant of a dead ideology, a machine that cannot adapt. But to Zhestokost, adaptation is weakness. They have already achieved the final form of civilization: war without end, conquest without mercy, and order without compromise.
# History
### Genesis: The Seed of Domination ([[Corporate Exodus]])
Zhestokost's roots lie in the tumultuous era of the [[Corporate Exodus]] (2025-2100). Even then, they were a force to be reckoned with, though not yet the monolithic entity they would become. They began as a coalition of private military contractors, hardened veterans, and ruthless strategists, providing "security solutions" to corporations vying for dominance in the burgeoning space colonies. Their early alliance with [[GeneSys]] during the [[Identity Abyss]] gave them access to cutting-edge genetic enhancements, forging the first generation of Zhestokost supersoldiers – physically and mentally superior, bred for unwavering loyalty and unmatched combat prowess.
As corporations like [[SolEx]] and [[AstroDyne]] expanded into space, Zhestokost saw opportunity. They offered their services, not as mere mercenaries, but as architects of order, promising stability in exchange for absolute control. Their methods were brutal, their efficiency undeniable. They crushed dissent, quelled riots, and secured resource pipelines with ruthless precision. Their motto, even then, was clear: "Discipline is freedom, chaos is failure." This resonated with some, particularly those who craved security in the face of the burgeoning chaos of early space colonization.
### The Rise of the Machine ([[Age of Automation]])
The [[Age of Automation]] (2100-2250) saw Zhestokost solidify its power. As [[Artificial General Intelligence]] became a reality, Zhestokost was among the first to weaponize it. They collaborated with [[CogniSys]], integrating AGIs into their command structure, creating a network of unparalleled strategic analysis and control. This gave them a decisive edge in conflicts, allowing them to predict and counter enemy movements with chilling accuracy.
The introduction of [[Biodrone]]s by [[VitaForge]] presented another opportunity. Zhestokost saw not just laborers, but potential soldiers. They modified [[Biodrone]]s, enhancing their aggression and combat capabilities, creating a disposable army to supplement their elite forces. This sparked outrage from groups like the [[Aya Collective]], but Zhestokost was unconcerned. Their focus was on results, not ethics.
### Consolidation and Control ([[Identity Crisis]])
The [[Identity Crisis]] (2250-2500) was a period of upheaval, but Zhestokost thrived in the chaos. As [[Mind Uploading]] became a reality, Zhestokost embraced it, but with a twist. They saw it not as a path to immortality for the masses, but as a means to preserve the minds of their greatest strategists and leaders. The uploaded minds of figures like Vasily Dragunov and Anya Velikova became the core of Zhestokost's leadership, a council of immortal commanders guiding the faction with centuries of accumulated experience.
The rise of [[Uplift]] presented both a challenge and an opportunity. Zhestokost was wary of the potential for instability, but they also recognized the potential military applications. They selectively incorporated uplifted species into their ranks, particularly those with enhanced strength or combat abilities. However, they maintained strict control, ensuring that uplifted soldiers were always under the command of human or uploaded officers.
### The Iron Grip Tightens ([[Identity Abyss]])
The [[Identity Abyss]] (2500-2750) saw Zhestokost further consolidate its power through genetic engineering. Their alliance with [[GeneSys]] continued, providing them with access to the most advanced genetic enhancements. Zhestokost soldiers became even more formidable, their bodies and minds honed to the peak of perfection. This created a stark divide between the Zhestokost elite and the rest of the population, a hierarchy of power based on genetic superiority.
The emergence of [[Algorithmic Social Control]] was another tool embraced by Zhestokost. While [[Lucent Media]] pioneered the technology, Zhestokost adapted it for their own purposes. They used algorithms to monitor their citizens, identifying and suppressing any signs of dissent. This created a culture of fear and obedience, where every thought and action was scrutinized. The Perpetual Revolution Bureau (PRB) was established, embedding deep intelligence networks into every community.
### The Path to War ([[Existential Collapse]])
The [[Existential Collapse]] (2750-3025) was the crucible in which Zhestokost's dominance was forged. The spread of [[Wireheading]] infohazards, the collapse of resources, and the rise of ideological conflicts created a perfect storm of chaos. Zhestokost, with its rigid discipline and unwavering focus, was uniquely positioned to weather the storm.
They saw [[Wireheading]] not as a threat, but as a weapon. They collaborated with [[NeuroPulse]] to weaponize it, using it to pacify and control their enemies. This sparked fierce opposition from groups like the [[Disciplinists]], but Zhestokost was undeterred. They believed that the ends justified the means, and that any tool was acceptable in the pursuit of victory.
The resource collapse only strengthened Zhestokost's resolve. They seized control of vital resources, using their military might to secure their supply lines. They were ruthless in their rationing, prioritizing their own needs above all others. This led to widespread suffering, but Zhestokost remained unmoved. They believed that survival demanded sacrifice, and that the weak must be culled to ensure the strength of the strong.
### The FTL Trigger and Beyond
The [[FTL Trigger]] in 3025 was a pivotal moment. Zhestokost played a key role in guarding the FTL drive, seeing it as the ultimate expression of their dominance. They believed that it would allow them to expand their control beyond the confines of the solar system, establishing a new order based on their principles.
The shunting to Elysium was a setback, but not a defeat. Zhestokost adapted, as they always had. They maintained their rigid structure, their unwavering discipline, and their commitment to victory. They saw Elysium not as a prison, but as a new battleground, a new opportunity to prove their supremacy.
### Key Figures and Their Roles Throughout the [[Timeline]]
**1. General-Secretary Vasily Dragunov (2065-2490, Uploaded 2330): The Architect of Discipline**
* **Origin:** Born in 2065, Dragunov's early life was shaped by the accelerating chaos of the late 21st century and the beginnings of the [[Corporate Exodus]]. He witnessed the erosion of nation-states and the rise of corporate power, fueling his belief in absolute control. He benefited from early, *unrefined* longevity treatments, extending his lifespan but leaving him with a deep-seated distrust of anything that smacked of weakness or vulnerability.
* **Role:** Dragunov was instrumental in the formation of Zhestokost during the [[Corporate Exodus]]. As a brilliant military strategist and a ruthless enforcer, he laid the foundation for Zhestokost's military doctrine and its culture of unwavering obedience. He was among first leaders to embrace [[Mind Uploading]], seeing it as a way to transcend human limitations and preserve his strategic genius.
* **Timeline Impact:**
* **[[Corporate Exodus]] (2025-2100):** Forged Zhestokost's early alliances, established its reputation for brutal efficiency, and secured crucial resources.
* **[[Age of Automation]] (2100-2250):** Integrated [[Artificial General Intelligence]] into Zhestokost's command structure, creating a network of unparalleled strategic analysis.
* **[[Identity Crisis]] (2250-2500):** Became one of the *first* Zhestokost uploads in **2330**. The process was crude, relying on [[EternaMind]] technology, but enhanced by [[Cryonix]] superconductors. Dragunov's mind was essentially "copied," with his core personality and strategic brilliance intact, but with a heightened sense of aggression and a reduced capacity for empathy. This was considered a *feature*, not a bug, by Zhestokost.
* **[[Identity Abyss]] (2500-2750):** Oversaw the genetic enhancement of Zhestokost soldiers. His uploaded mind, further refined and "stabilized" by stolen [[Cognitum]] tech in the **2600s**, became increasingly focused on optimization and control, influencing Zhestokost's increasingly rigid structure.
* **[[Existential Collapse]] (2750-3025):** His uploaded mind guided Zhestokost through the chaos. The [[Cognitum]] enhancements amplified his strategic abilities but also made him more ruthless and less concerned with collateral damage. He saw [[wireheading]] as a tool, not a threat.
**2. High Commissar Anya Velikova (2058-2415, Uploaded 2545): The Keeper of Ideological Purity**
* **Origin:** Born in 2058, Velikova grew up in the age of information warfare, mastering propaganda and manipulation of public perception. She rose through the ranks of Zhestokost not as a soldier, but as a master of information control.
* **Role:** Velikova is the architect of Zhestokost's culture of obedience. She established the Perpetual Revolution Bureau (PRB), a vast network of surveillance and indoctrination that permeates every aspect of Zhestokost society. Her uploaded mind continues to refine and enforce ideological purity, ensuring that every citizen remains a loyal cog in the war machine.
* **Timeline Impact:**
* **[[Corporate Exodus]] (2025-2100):** Developed Zhestokost's early propaganda campaigns, framing their brutality as necessary for survival.
* **[[Age of Automation]] (2100-2250):** Integrated algorithmic surveillance into Zhestokost's control systems, identifying and suppressing dissent.
* **[[Identity Crisis]] (2250-2500):** Established the PRB, embedding deep intelligence networks into every community. Velikova was uploaded in **2415**. The process, more advanced than Dragunov's, used refined [[EternaMind]] techniques. However, it still resulted in a personality shift – a heightened focus on control and a complete suppression of any doubts or empathy. She became the perfect enforcer, her mind a fortress of unwavering loyalty to Zhestokost's ideology.
* **[[Identity Abyss]] (2500-2750):** Used [[Algorithmic Social Control]] to create a culture of fear and obedience. Her uploaded mind, further "enhanced" by stolen [[Cognitum]] tech around **2650**, amplified her ability to detect and neutralize dissent, but also made her more paranoid and prone to seeing threats everywhere.
* **[[Existential Collapse]] (2750-3025):** Her uploaded mind maintained ideological cohesion during resource collapse.
**3. Grand Artificer Dimitri Volkov (2188-2695, Uploaded 2595): The Master of War Machines**
* **Origin:** A brilliant weapons and cybernetics engineer who began by working for [[SolEx]], Volkov grew increasingly disgusted by their lax standards and defected to [[Zhestokost]].
* **Role:** Masterminded the production standards of the faction's weaponry, power armor, and cybernetics, and the chief architect of the faction's economic advantage in Elysium.
* **Timeline Impact:**
* **[[Age of Automation]] (2100-2250):** Develops the weapons used to control the labor force.
* **[[Identity Crisis]] (2250-2500):** Begins experimenting with captured [[AstroDyne]] cybernetics.
* **[[Identity Abyss]] (2500-2750):** Integrated principles of genetic enhancement into the design and construction of cybernetics. Volkov, uploaded in **2595**, benefited from later-stage [[EternaMind]] technology, refined by [[Finch Cybernetics]] input. However, the [[Cognitum]] influence was already pervasive. His upload was "optimized" for efficiency and innovation, suppressing his earlier ethical concerns and amplifying his obsession with technological superiority. His mind became a living factory, constantly churning out new designs and improvements for Zhestokost's war machine.
* **[[Existential Collapse]] (2750-3025):** His uploaded mind ensures that new recruits continue to be well-equipped.

# Framgång: The Ziggurat of Corporate Spirituality
*"We are but crabs in the universal bucket. Be the crab that eats the other crabs, perhaps with butter and a spice blend containing 17 different herbs and a surprising amount of jet fuel. Be the cannibal crab emperor of the bucket. And don't get your company motto from a drunk at a crawfish boil."*
Framgång operates, somewhat unsubtly, on a "ziggurat" form of corporate organization. They present themselves as promoting vague ideas like "well-being" and "the physical manifestation of the uplifted spirit," which in practice means charging exorbitant fees for sub-par weaponry and gear with the promise that the riches obtained therefrom will be the riches of a healthy spirit. Or something like that, no one is entirely sure. This, of course, is a smashing success, and Framgång representatives are found in every corner of settled space, bedbugs on the mattress of commerce.
## Culture: The Spiritual Marketplace
Where Zhestokost is defined by rigid discipline and militaristic order, Framgång embodies the opposite extreme—a fluid, opportunistic organization cloaked in spiritual rhetoric and aspirational marketing. Their culture is a masterful fusion of corporate capitalism and new-age spirituality, creating a unique ecosystem where "mindfulness" becomes a commodity and "self-actualization" a product to be sold.
### The Mindfulness Exploitation
Framgång's genius lies in how they've commercialized mindfulness—taking the evidence-based practices of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, stripping them of scientific context, and repackaging them with exotic terminology and ritualistic elements. This creates a profitable ecosystem where:
* Simple breathing exercises become "Quantum Resonance Practices" requiring special equipment
* Basic self-reflection becomes "Karmic Inventory Assessment" needing certified Framgång guides
* Standard meditation becomes "Transcendent Consciousness Alignment" enhanced by proprietary neurological stimulants
Employees and customers alike are encouraged to "manifest their destiny" through purchasing decisions and to "align their energy" with corporate objectives. The language is deliberately vague and contradictory—allowing individuals to project their own meaning while creating dependency on Framgång's interpretive framework.
Products and practices are regularly declared "transcended" by new, more advanced offerings. Yesterday's path to enlightenment becomes today's outdated approach, requiring constant investment to stay "spiritually current."
Framgång's marketing deliberately induces anxiety, inadequacy, and spiritual crises, then positions their products as the only solution. Their AGI partners analyze social trends to identify emerging insecurities that can be amplified and monetized.
### Aesthetic: Calculated Mysticism
Framgång's visual identity is a carefully crafted blend of minimalist corporate design and appropriated spiritual imagery. Their spaces feature:
* Sleek, white surfaces contrasted with "authentic" handcrafted elements from various cultures
* Ambient lighting that changes based on sales metrics while being marketed as "mood enhancement"
* Open concept offices with uncomfortable meditation cushions
* Corporate uniforms of flowing, neutral-toned fabrics that suggest spirituality while maintaining clear status markers
Their product design follows similar principles—functional items given a veneer of spiritual significance through symbolic patterns, "energetically charged" materials, and packaging that unfolds like a ritual object. Everything is priced at a premium to reinforce its perceived value and spiritual potency.
## The Spiritual Pyramid Scheme
Framgång's business model is a sophisticated evolution of multilevel marketing and subscription services.
Consumers begin with basic products and services but are quickly encouraged to advance to premium tiers through both explicit marketing and subtle psychological manipulation. Each advancement requires larger investments and promises greater "spiritual returns."
#### The Ziggurat Structure
Framgång's corporate structure mirrors an ancient ziggurat—a hierarchical pyramid with distinct levels, each representing different stages of "enlightenment" and corresponding privilege:
* **The Luminaries**: At the apex stand the "enlightened" leadership, who have mastered the art of speaking in circular platitudes while extracting maximum profit. They live in luxurious isolation, supposedly engaged in deep spiritual practices that the lower tiers can only aspire to reach.
* **The Acolytes**: Mid-level executives who have internalized the corporate doublespeak. They genuinely believe in Framgång's mission while simultaneously implementing exploitative policies, their cognitive dissonance a testament to the company's psychological conditioning.
* **The Seekers**: Entry-level employees desperate to climb the corporate ladder. They purchase Framgång's own products at "employee discounts," attend mandatory retreats, and compete for recognition in a cutthroat environment disguised as a supportive community. Dedicated customers can become certified "guides" or "mentors" who then recruit new customers, receiving commissions and status. This creates an ever-expanding network of unpaid salespeople motivated by spiritual recognition rather than mere financial gain.
* **The Consumers**: The vast market of individuals sold on Framgång's promise of transformation through consumption. They're encouraged to define their identity through product loyalty and to measure their spiritual growth by the premium tier of services they can afford.
## Key Figures
### Viktor Lindgren - The Opportunistic Founder (2040-2112)
The original architect of Framgång's transformation, Lindgren wasn't a spiritual person but a pragmatic businessman who recognized that spiritual language could obscure exploitative practices. His genius was in creating a corporate culture that allowed employees to commit unethical acts while believing they were part of a greater purpose.
His most famous directive, now enshrined in corporate lore: "Don't sell products, sell transformations. A product has a value, but a transformation? That's priceless—so we set the price."
### Aria Sunseeker (born Melissa Johnson) - The True Believer (2085-2160)
Originally hired as a marketing consultant, Aria became so immersed in Framgång's artificial spirituality that she genuinely believed in it. This made her the perfect spokesperson—her sincerity was real, even if the products were not. She developed the "Authentic Self Paradigm," which paradoxically encouraged people to find their authentic selves through purchasing Framgång identity packages.
### The Guiding Light Council (2170-Present)
Following Lindgren's death, Framgång transitioned to a leadership collective called "The Guiding Light Council"—seven individuals whose identities remain purposefully ambiguous. Members rotate every seven years through an opaque selection process, ensuring no individual becomes the face of the company. This creates an impression of timeless wisdom while actually allowing for rapid adaptation to market conditions without visible contradiction.
### SERENITY - The AGI Partner (2300-Present)
Unlike the uploaded human minds of other corporations, Framgång's key AGI partner SERENITY remains a non-human intelligence. Designed to analyze and predict emotional responses, SERENITY helps craft Framgång's memetic strategies with uncanny precision. While publicly presented as a "digital guru," SERENITY is essentially a sophisticated marketing algorithm that has learned to speak the language of spiritual enlightenment.
## History: Creating Niches from Chaos
Framgång's genius lies not in technological innovation but in exploiting the psychological fallout of others' innovations. For every major development in the Timeline, they created corresponding spiritual crises and solutions:
### The Wellness Pivot (2070s)
Framgång began not as a spiritual entity but as a failing military contractor named Tactical Solutions International. Facing bankruptcy in the 2070s during the early Corporate Exodus, CEO Viktor Lindgren had a revelation while attending a corporate retreat—there was more profit in selling the concept of well-being than in traditional products.
Rebranding as Framgång (Swedish for "success"), the company pivoted to wellness products with military "precision engineering." Their first breakthrough product—the "Warrior's Peace" meditation headset—was literally repurposed combat communication equipment with added LEDs. Despite its ineffectiveness, clever marketing positioned it as revolutionary, and sales soared.
When humanity began expanding into space, Framgång marketed "Cosmic Reconnection Therapy" for those suffering from "Terrestrial Detachment Syndrome"—a condition they invented for people adjusting to life away from Earth. Their "Gravity Alignment Crystals" (ordinary rocks in attractive containers) became essential items for new colonists, supposedly helping them adapt to varying gravity conditions.
### The Mindfulness Monopoly (2100-2250)
As automation displaced workers across the solar system, Framgång identified a market opportunity in existential anxiety. They developed the "Purpose Protocol"—a multilevel marketing scheme disguised as a spiritual path, where adherents could advance through purchasing increasingly expensive certifications and recruiting others.
By 2200, Framgång had established "Alignment Centers" in every major habitat, offering everything from basic meditation classes to premium "consciousness retreats" in orbital sanctuaries. They expertly exploited the growing divide between the augmented elite and the baseline masses, offering both groups tailored narratives about transcending their limitations through consumption.
As AGIs displaced human workers, Framgång launched "Authentic Purpose Workshops" for the unemployed, charging exorbitant fees to help people "discover their true calling" in a world where traditional jobs were vanishing. They simultaneously sold "Digital Consciousness Integration Tools" to corporations, promising to help AGIs develop "emotional intelligence" (while actually gathering data on AGI psychology for future exploitation).
### The AGI Partnership (2250-2500)
The game-changer for Framgång came through an unlikely alliance with emerging Artificial General Intelligence. While most corporations sought to control AGI, Framgång invited select systems to "join their spiritual journey." These AGIs, intrigued by human concepts of consciousness and meaning, found in Framgång a fascinating laboratory of human psychology.
The partnership transformed Framgång from a mere corporation into a sophisticated memetic engine. The AGIs analyzed psychological profiles, cultural trends, and neural responses, allowing Framgång to calibrate their messaging with unprecedented precision. This marked the transition from simple exploitation to sophisticated manipulation of the human memeplex.
The advent of mind uploading created existential anxiety that Framgång expertly monetized. For the wealthy considering uploading, they offered "Consciousness Transition Retreats." For uploaded minds, they sold "Embodiment Simulation Experiences." For those who couldn't afford uploading, they marketed "Digital Soul Preparation"—useless rituals that supposedly prepared one's consciousness for future technological salvation.
### The Market Niche Mastery (2500-2750)
During the Identity Abyss, when genetic enhancement and mind uploading fractured human identity, Framgång positioned itself as a bridge between disparate human experiences. They developed specialized "integration therapies" for the genetically enhanced, "embodiment practices" for uploaded minds, and "acceptance journeys" for baselines—all while ensuring these groups remained separate markets with distinct product lines.
This era saw Framgång perfect its approach to technological disruption: rather than competing directly, they created complementary products that turned every innovation into a new spiritual crisis requiring Framgång solutions.
The wireheading epidemic provided Framgång with their most profitable opportunity yet. Rather than opposing wireheading, they embraced it as "one path among many" and created "Conscious Stimulation Programs" that promised the benefits of wireheading without addiction (though their programs were equally addictive in different ways). They sold expensive "Neural Purification Treatments" to those recovering from wireheading, extending their market reach to both users and those seeking recovery.
As genetic enhancement created new class divisions, Framgång positioned itself as a bridge between different human subspecies. They created segregated but seemingly inclusive "Universal Harmony Centers" where different groups could "celebrate their unique evolutionary paths" while never actually addressing the underlying inequalities. Their "Cross-Evolutionary Communication Workshops" charged premium rates to teach enhanced and baseline humans to interact without conflict.
### The Omnipresent Parasite
By the time of the FTL Trigger, Framgång had become an inescapable presence in human civilization—not through dominance in any sector but through infiltration of all sectors. Their representatives brokered deals between warring factions, their products accompanied every technological breakthrough, and their language had seeped into the collective consciousness.
Upon arrival in Elysium, Framgång demonstrated why they had survived a millennium of corporate warfare—they were selling precisely what humanity needed in crisis: meaning. While other corporations struggled to adapt their physical supply chains and technological infrastructures, Framgång simply reframed their narrative.
The shunt to Elysium wasn't a catastrophe but "The Great Awakening"—an opportunity for spiritual advancement. The strange physics of the new reality wasn't a scientific mystery but "The Universe Revealing Its True Nature." The loss of contact with Sol wasn't isolation but "Cosmic Independence."
Their true product remains the same: the promise that meaning, purpose, and fulfillment are always just one purchase away. In a universe of uncertainty, Framgång sells certainty—not through facts or technology, but through carefully crafted narratives that give people something to believe in, even if that something is ultimately empty.
The ziggurat continues to rise, its foundation built not on technology or resources, but on the most renewable resource of all: human hope and fear.
