Maps go on main, and a refused instruction that was real

Two scars from one Hands report. The map it read was five days old because
Self commits maps to whatever branch it is standing on; SKILL.md now says
main, and says every brief names the map's branch.

The same agent refused a mid-task instruction from Self that it could not
distinguish from an injection. The instruction was genuine. The fix is not to
make the agent more trusting: scope expansion should arrive as a new dispatch,
not appended after a tool result.

model does not soften its brief: it still attacks, invariants first. When
Fable ran out mid-migration, Opus carried every faculty and Soul still
found the defects.
- **Commit maps to `main`, not to whatever branch Self is standing on.** A map
is only current if it is current on the branch the reader has. On 2026-09-22
a Hands agent on the selection cut reported that the map had no fix-batch-4
section: the live copy was on Self's own working branch, `main` was a day
behind, and the work branch carried a copy from five days earlier. It worked
from its brief and said so, which is the only reason this surfaced instead of
producing a cut built on stale design. **Also name the map's branch in every
brief**, so a faculty reading a different one notices.
- **A subtraction budget is pressure, not a metric.** Say so when you set it, so
Hands knows escalating a miss with an argument is allowed. Treat a suspiciously
clean hit as a sign that unrelated code was deleted to meet the number.
