contouring option is planned in CultLib. Prior art: Kobbelt et al. 2001,
Ju et al. 2002. Implemented fresh.
- **Tangential relaxation in the tile pass** (discussed 2026-10-02). Newton
refinement moves points only along the normal, so they can cluster or drift.
Relaxation is a few rounds of three steps: even out neighbours in the tangent
plane, re-project onto `f = 0`, and crease-snap again. This is particle-based
implicit-surface sampling (Witkin and Heckbert 1994).
- Points on tile edges may move only along their edge, using data that both
tiles share, so the surface stays watertight (Cut 6b).
- It is a candidate Cut 6d, earned only if 6b or 6c show uneven texel density
or poor snapping.
- Thin authored bevels need no new machinery. A point snapped onto a bevel
takes the bevel's blended gradient, which gives weighted-normal shading over
one patch cell. Whether a bevel snaps or stays smooth geometry depends on
the crease stencil's size relative to the bevel's radius.
